Wireless does not work on hp pavillion ze 2000 after xp reinstall

I reinstalled windows xp service pack 2 on the laptop all the drivers are installed but I cant get the wireless to work. There is a wireless button on the laptop. When I press it it says wireless disabled if I press it again it says wireless off then it says wireless disabled when I press it again. I'd appreciate any help.

I have checked to see if the wireless network connection is enabled and it is. I also tried repairing it. Also I checked to see if I had a driver and that the hardware was working properly and both checked out fine.

I suspect that the problem has something to do with the hp wirleless assistant as it toggles "off" and "disabled" but not "on". Not sure what to do or how to fix it though.

Reinstalling a new version hp wireless assistant seems to have fixed the toggle issue at least. Now it goes to "wireless on". I have to test the wifi now.

Wifi works after hp wireless assistant uninstalled and then reinstalled.

Try this to check the wireless.

Click on start> Control panel> network and internet connection> from left pane click on view network connection after that right click on the wireless adopter icon and select enable.
this will resolve the issue if it is not helpful
try to check wireless driver from

1) Go to Start, right click My Computer and then click on Properties.
2) System Properties window will appear. Go to Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
3) Device Manager window will appear, and you can check all hardware drivers' status here. Scroll down and look for Network adapters and expand it, then right click the wireless adapter you want to check and click Properties.

Let's make sure the WLAN adapter is enabled in Windows, too.

Click Start => Settings => Control Panel.
Double-click Network Connections
Right-click on the wifi adapter
Look to see if Enable or Disable is present
- If Enable, the device is OFF
- If Disable, the device is ON
If Enable is in the dialog box, then click it.
That will turn the wifi card ON.
Try the wireless button on the laptop now.

Check that out and then let me know the results. We'll go from there!

If this doesn't fix the problem, please don't rate the solution just yet. There are more steps we can take to troubleshoot the problem. My goal is always FixYa or Helpful, never TFT or IA.

GREAT! It sounds like you're making good progress. Once you test the wifi, please let me know the results. We can go from there, *IF* it's not fixed. THANKS for following up with me.

If you upgrade your operating system like from windows xp to windows vista, you need to install new hardware driver for your computer like for LAN, webcam, WAN and others because the old driver is only compatible with the old operating system and not with VISTA operating system. Solution would are, download webcam and WAN driver for Windows Vista and install it into your computer. Don't just upgrade your computer because the configuration is not the same with the old operating system. If problem still exist, just upgrade the service pack from 2 to 3. There is available install for upgrading the service pack of each operating system. and surely all your hardwares will function.

No wifi after re-load of xp system software

Did you reinstall the drivers for the device? Check the Device Manager for your system and see if Windows sees the wireless device. If you have a red X, the device is disabled; if you have either an unknown device or the wireless device with a yellow dot with a black exclamation point, then either the driver is not installed, or the driver is improperly installed.

Try hitting F8 right when Windows starts up. You will get a text menu with options. Try "last known good configuration" and see if that helps. If it doesn't you may be able to get it working by reinstalling XP and choosing "Repair",which will try and replace all your windows files with the original ones.

If that doesnt work then you will have to reload XP from scratch. If you have to do that then install service pack 2 before any other software or drivers.
