Question about Freezers

1 Answer

Loose handle 19 cu ft upright freezer, Kenmore, unknown model or year (approx. 1994) Access to screw is blocked by molded shelves on the door's inside. There is no apparent access to the screw to be able to tighten it. Does the door need to be dis-assembled to provide the needed access?

Yes , on most freezers the door inner panel liner needs to be removed , that will sometimes require the removal of the door gasket that may be old to the point where it to needs replacing. then finally you can get to the back side of the door and snug up the screws that hold the handle from the back. usually fine thread screws. be sure to apply loc tite and snug up good , we don't want to do this again any time soon. you can take a chance and try pulling out the handle and cutting the screws and then drill the hole in the handle out to where you see a hole in the side of the handle from the front, then counter sink the hole and use a drill screw or a small toggle bolt to resecure the handle . no real wires or refigeration tubes in the door, so its an option. good luck

Replace gasket in freezer

Its a pain in the *** and if you really plan on doing it yourself and its not the magnetic kind then the best thing to do is take the door completely off the machine and only loosen the screws in the mold, not remove them because the inner door called the eggshell will shift causing more problems than what its worth

My freezer didn't have ice on the shelves until

Most likely cause is a door being left ajar or gaskets not seating. If the ice looks like snow, that is your issue.

Taking out trays for cleaning

Usually the holes are deeper than they appear in the side walls. Lift the shelves just a hair and then push them left...the right side should now be outside the hole and able to be moved upward until left side clears.

Reverse this process to reinsert. Good Luck.
