Question about Vicks Ultrasonic V5100 Humidifier

Open Question

Vicks V5100 does not produce mist, after being stored for 1 year.

I bought it last year, but used it no more than 4 times and stop it because it was inundating the room of white dust. When I tried to use it after about a year, it produced very little mist for a few hours and then, stopped. I can feel a little air flow only, but no mist at all. I cleaned the filter and all the parts, but it still doesn't work. I have another one at the office bought almost at the same time, and this one is working after a year of being stored.
Is there any warranty in place? Is it repairable? Thank you.

SOURCE: mold in vicks cool mist vaporizer

if you can take it out side and plug it in, put some bleach in it and let it run for a few minutes. then wash it out and run the rest of it out.

SOURCE: Odor

First, clean or replace the filter. Next, mix a very weak solution (40:1 ratio) of bleach and water to fill the unit. the bleach will kill any bacteria that could be causing the odor, but NOT harm anyone, The filter will take care of any hard water issues. Just don't make the mistake of thinking "If a weak solution is good, a strong one is better". NOT TRUE. Stay with the 40:1 mix unless you like breathing bleach. (Yuk) Note: It may take a couple of days for the odor to go away.

SOURCE: Humidifier makes a huge noise and no mist

According to the Crane's Troubleshooting section:
The power light is green but there is no mist being emitted:
- Check that there is water in the tank.
- Check for possible lime deposits on the water level sensor or the nebulizer.
- Make sure that nothing blocks the vapor output slots.
- Check that the fan vent on bottom of humidifier is not blocked.
- Empty the humidifier and rinse the water basin with cool tap water and allow to dry for 15 to 30 min.

This next part may or may not be relevant.
Humidifier power light is staying red and not turning green. Or, Humidifier is working then stops:
- Ensure that water level sensor is assembled properly.
- Clean water float.
- Call service center and request replacement water float.

SOURCE: Produces a ton of white dust... Why???

Your V5100N ultrasonic humidifier generates a fine mist by vibrating the water at an exremely high speed. The water doesn't actually evaporate until after the water mist is in the air. As the tiny water droplets evaporate in the air, the calcium and other minerals settle on your floors and furniture.

Humidifiers that evaporate the water in a filter wick, or with heat, do not generate dust because the water evaporates inside the unit and the calcium is trapped inside.

You can avoid the dust problem with your humidifier by using distilled water. Distilled water is available in most stores that sell bottled water in gallons...but be sure to choose "distilled" water, not "purified" water. Try the distilled water in your steam iron also...if you have one. It will last longer.

SOURCE: Vicks caporiser is spitting water instead of steam

Have you cleaned it recently? Sometimes that's an indicator that it needs to be cleaned.

There is not mist coming out. What should I do??

The moisture released by this (or any ultrasonic) humidifier should not be visible, so it is very possible that it is working correctly. Try filling the reservoir and marking the water level with a small piece of tape. Then run the humidifier for a few hours, and check the water level again. If the water level is below the edge of the tape, then you know it is releasing moisture into the air, and everything is working fine.

The older style of humidifiers created a mist by spinning a disk that was partly dipped into the water reservoir. They had to be refilled often, and the mist could leave water spots or dust on nearby furniture. The water level should change very slowly in your ultrasonic humidIfier compared to a misting humidifier.

Apperently, it doesn't produce mist.

From the product page "Provides invisible cool mist for easier breathing with 20 percent quieter operation".

The water doesn't seem to be passing through the filter, therefore the bottom reservoir isn't filling up enough to create mist

If water won't pass through the filter, then either the filter has an adjuster that needs to be opened up or the filter needs to be replaced.

Hi, We just purchased a vicks warm mist humidifier. We used it for two nights in my daughter's bedroom...we then noticed a sticky residue over sections of the wall as well as crackling paint? Is this...

is it possible that you have the mist turned up too high? If the room is very small, the high setting could be providing too much humidity to the room. I'm thinking that the paint crackled as the humidity climbed.
