High background noise when trying to talk computer to computer

I have a Dell "Smart" computer using Windows Vista. Recently I've started getting so much background noise I cannot hear or people cannot hear me. Skype tells me to move away but there is no where to move to.

There is a possibility of any number of issues. Radio, emf, radar, cell phone....so on... all can react with pn junctions and produce a whole range of noise.
Does it do it with only the battery installed and no external power source? Does it do it exactly the same when the laptop is moved to a different location?

If the loudspeakers volume is on to the full extent, you may hear some static noise. So just try to lower the volume to the middle and then listen for background noise.

Do you still have a warranty with Dell? I am going to refer you to your manufacturer's website: http://en.community.dell.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?q=high%20background%20noise
Basically, you will need to isolate the problem one by one, taking turns with the internals of the computer to find out which is making the high background noise. The fan is the easiest to check so do that one first. Then one by one, turn on the pc after taking another pc component out and check for noise. Do this until you have found the hardware causing the problem.

Dell Inspiron1410 running 50% CPU usage with no other processes running in background. This after a nice repair install of Windows XP professional. High fan noise and heating up! Thanks

Hello Saman Tarik,

Task manager may say there are no other processes running but if you look in the next tab, "Services" you will find there are many things running.
The processor will run at a lower percentage when it is not busy.
As for running hot, I would suggest that the heat sink fins need cleaning out, I was surprised at how much fluff had accumulated in them, preventing a good air flow.
I have upgraded my processor from 1.5Ghz to 2.5Ghz which runs hotter so I bought a ZALMAN ZM-NC1500 USB and the hottest my CPU has reached is 41 degrees when both cores are running at 100%.
I hope the above information is of use to you.

Kind regards,

Ron.

Did a clean install of my laptop. Windows does not acknowledge Windows Vista Home Premium

There will be a sticker on the laptop wi the product key. It will be in the format of xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx Sometimes the sticker will be under the battery. If the sticker is not on the laptop it was either removed, or you need to make a complaint with Walmart.

How to fix error code 2000-0142

Did you try booting your computer in Safe mode to check if you receive this error message?
1. Use F8 while restarting the computer.
2. Under Windows Advanced Boot Options select Safe mode and hit Enter.
Check if you receive this error message in Safe mode.

It seems like your drive might be corrupted. If your computer is still under warranty, I would suggest you to contact them to get a replacement. But before you contact them, let us see whether Check disk utility would make a way to boot windows succesfully or not.

If you've Windows Vista Operating System disc, then try running the check disk utility from Windows Recovery Environment.

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type the following command and press enter.
Chkdsk /r

Once your machine has finished repairing the hard drive, type EXIT and press ENTER to restart your laptop.

You can also try typing the following command if Check disk fails to fix the issue. At the same command prompt, type fixboot and press enter.

For your information: If you've a Dell Laptop, then according to Dell, the error code 2000-0142 is a Drive Self Test failed error code. My brothers stupid friend tried to fix his computer (Dell 6400 inspiron) had vista on it and instead of using the revcovery manager i believe he wiped the OS and reinstalled an unlicensed version of XP...

I believe that when you turn it on, you have to hold down the CTRL and either F10 or F11 (I've heard of both working) and that should get you into the recovery partition.

Hi I have Dell inspiron 1720 (17 inches) laptop with intel centrino- window vista ultimate OS Problem: after system boots up, just before windows login, it comes "Please wait" and again it...

That's an interesting problem. It sounds like it's applying new display settings, but I'm not sure why it would do so over and over again. I would suggest trying to start Windows in "Safe Mode". To do that, as the computer is booting, hold down the F8 key to get the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. Maybe this will get you to a normal login screen. If so, you should try to change your display settings to the simplest possible and then reboot. I hope this helps.

An external microphone will not cut out the background noises, no matter what settings we change...the built in mic is disabled, but the noise in the background is very loud unless we are talking, and evn...

Most microphones (especially those made for use in a computer) do not remove any background noise. This is usually done via software, but it might not be available on every app out there.

If you can't talk properly using your current mic, your best option might be getting a headset. Headsets have a less sensitive microphone, which will tend to pick up only your voice. If you have a bluetooth headset, you can use it on your computer by adding a bluetooth dongle.

I have a dell inspiron 6400 and every time i turn it on i get a blue screen and it say: a problem has ben detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME...

its called the blue screen of death and it could have been caused by something you installed recently or a hardware issue, have you tried booting your computer into safe-mode using the F8 key if you cannot boot into safe-mode without getting the same issue then you may have to format your hard drive

Hi,
your conflict or problem is with vista drivers.
get the latest updates from M$ for your machine.
Why do people always assume, that the latest is the greatest.
Vista is a pile of unfinished junk.
windows 2000-XP are far superior operating systems.
Vista is unfinished, like most microsoft products.
never get fully tested and debugged, they let the consumer find the floors.
