White area in LCD screen with colored vertical lines
Hi, I have an Acer 8920G laptop, that I have only had for about three months, I bought it at the end of August. About a month ago I switched the laptop, after a completely normal session the day before, and the about an 8th of the right hand side of the screen was all white with a few vertical colored lines in it and nothing else. This never changes within a session of having the laptop on, but it does vary between sessions. For a while I was switching it on and it had a thing white line about four fifths of the way along the screen and then a normal image on the other side of the line, where previously it had been all white. I originally though that the display potential of that side of the screen was lost, but after seeing that it does have the potential to display an image it has confused me. At the moment the white area has increased to take up about a quarter of the screen, and has been fluxuating between these 3 states. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I love my Acer laptop apart from this really annoying problem.

Remove the battery and power source. Remove the RAM and hdd. Power up with the power supply and it should do something. If it does, replace the RAM and hdd it should now restart. If nothing, check the GPU.
Power the unit off (holding power buttom) and selecting Power off, then simultaneously hold the "back" button and on button for about 8 seconds. When the android icon appears, press back buttom, in the menu select wipe data/factory reset pressing the home buttom and then press the back buttom, in the next screen select "yes delete all user data" pressing back buttom, and in the next screen select "reboot system now" with the back buttom and wait.
You placed your problem with wrong category, I assumes. Is it a projection TV or a laptop? If it is a TV; check the site linked here for one color predominant screen faults. If it is a computer, re post your problem by computer category. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
If you have a Windows OS, press and hold the ALT and CTRL (control) keys and then press the Up arrow. (If that doesn't work, try holding the Alt and CTRL keys and pressing the left (or right) arrow key twice.) If that fails, right click on the desktop (Windows+D will minimize all programs), anywhere with no running programs or icons. Then select the Screen Resolution option. Look for the line Orientation; use the drop down menu to select the correct orientation. Click Apply and then confirm the setting change if a confirmation window pops up. (This works in Windows 7 and 8.) For older Windows versions on laptops, you may need to select Graphics Properties (or a similar line) and then repeat this. The Windows screen rotation option is dependent on your video card. With some models, you'll need to open the graphics card properties to undo the rotation. You should see a line for the graphics adapter when you right click on the Display.
For Macintosh OS, make sure that the System Preferences is closed. Then open it by pressing Option/alt + CMD . Select the line Display. Find the button labeled Rotation: Standard then choose the correct screen orientation.

Manual. I suspect that the information you have been given regarding battery removal and passwords refers to removing the cmos battery as in a PC in the hope that it will clear Bios activated passwords.
Burning dvd\'s is always a crapshoot when you have multiple machines. Computer drives are more tolerant on playback - the problem lies with your other, independent playback units. That is why in your main viewing area it is important that you have a few units so that if disk does not play in one machine, it will play on another. Has to do with the individual differences and calibrations of the machines involved. Store bought dvd\'s have less problems because their laser reflectivity is always higher than disks you burn, and therefore, easier to read properly. Price of the unit has no reflection on ability to properly read the disk. Sometimes and often, a cheaper machine will work better with copies - you never know.
It sounds like it could be either the battery is going bad and not holding a charge or the adapter is. I have had really good luck with similar problems going to places like Batteries +, and large electronic retailers, and my favorite the small local mom and pop computer store; where I end up asking them If I could try one of the adapters from the floor model to eliminate if is a faulty adapter. Try the following: Using your FN key and the F7 Key together it might work again. You could have toggled the touchpad off. If that does not work you have issues with either the touchpad or the operating system. Best of Luck.
