The best way to at least get started would be to download AVG v8.x Free Edition AND Avast Home Edition on her laptop. Also, download CCleaner v2.1x. All are available from download.com FREE of charge.

Disconnect from the Internet -- remove the cable, if you have DSL, etc. Install CCleaner. Start the program and click Analyze. Once it finishes scanning for temporary files, click, Run Cleaner. Confirm the deletion of all the temp files. This will not likely get rid of much malware, BUT it will help the anti-virus scans run smoother and quicker.

Next, install both anti-virus programs and have them run scans at startup (one at a time). Then, reboot and run another scan with AVG. If it doesn't find any more viruses, then update both AVG and Avast -- and run a third scan with both programs.

By that time, the PC should be virus free. If not, let me know and we'll get more in depth.

I hope this helps. If it does, please rate the solution offered. My goal is always FixYa or Helpful, never TFT or IA. Regards,
Char1ieJ

Get in touch with the warranty provider and they will probably have you ship it to them for the repair.

There are plenty of free antivirus software! Some of them having online scaning (u don;t have to install the antivirus). Google for them and use them, most of them are very good and up to date with virus databases...

My virus protection is going to run out in six days What are the recommended anti virus protection programs?d

i recommended to you to use Avast Internet Security or avast antivirus pro.
but if you still wanna use your Out off date antivirus, you just set back time and date to one Month before or else (its up to you),
After you restart your computer, that antivirus will active again.
try it.

My laptop l300 toshiba satellite lan stop working after some time and lan disapper from my network place

Let windows boot and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

Even if you running anti-virus software, it may be beneficial to scan your PC with another scanner to check for viruses. No anti-virus software is 100% perfect at catching everything. Here are a few good free online virus scanners that you can run to check your PC:

An excellent free utility for overall system maintenance is Advanced System Care Free ( http://download.cnet.com/advanced-systemcare-free/3000-2086_4-10407614 .html ). I use this utility on a regular basis.

You should always run anti-virus software. There are several very good, free, anti-virus products available. One good source to read editor and user reviews, and safely download anti-virus software, is http://download.cnet.com -- search for free antivirus software. In addition to the reviews, you can see how many people are downloading the software, which is another good indicator of how popular it is.

I have used AVG Free ( http://download.cnet.com/avg-anti-virus-free/3000-2239_4-10320142.html ) , and Avast Free ( http://download.cnet.com/avast-free-antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.htm l ). Both are very good, and completely free. At present I am using Avast on all of my home computers.

I have heard good things about Avira AntiVir Free ( http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-22 39_4-10322935.html ), and it has good ratings, but I have not personally tried it.

In addition to Avast or one of the other free anti-virus software packages, I also run Ad-Aware ( http://download.cnet.com/ad-aware-free-internet/3000-8022_4-10045910.h tml ). Ad-Aware is a free anti-malware, anti-spyware package.

Good luck!

Daughter can not open any document and doc on flash drive, says there are zero files when trying to open, but if you do to control panel it says there are files on the flash drive

This sounds like a virus deed. There is a virus that attacks Office files and basically wipes their content.
Make sure you have a secure system, clean of viruses, trojans and any security holes (here's how I do it). Then, get some free data recovery application and try to restore/copy the files off the USB key. Here's a list of free tools http://free-backup.info/data-recovery-software.htm. I've used Easeus to save 1.5TB of data, so I know it works well. But you may want to try them all out and see which one does the job best.

If you found this post useful and informative please vote for it with a Thumb Up. Thank you.

Have you reloaded your laptop's operating system, as well as all drivers for other parts of your computer, like Wireless and CD/DVD driver? Did the computer actually have a virus? Viruses best removed with antivirus software before wiping the entire Hard Drive. Let me know if this is not helpful ... jaye.ellen@gmail.com

I agree. Re imaging or reinstalling the windows operating system seems like the only fix at this point since it seems like the anti virus isn't picking up the virus. Back up the files on an external hard drive and just reinstall windows.

Installing anti virus onto aspire one net book

Hi, the Acer Aspire is a Linux operating system based computer. It does not run Microsoft windows in the same way that Apple computers run OSX, not windows. The antivirus programs you mention are for windows computers. On the bright side, running Linux you really DON'T need virus protection Linux is inherently far more secure than windows.
