Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Laserjet 1000 smudges on sides of output.

Smudges are about 1 1/2 inches apart and about 1 inch long. Left side marks are heavier than right side. Cleaned areas I could get to. It looks like a roller issue. Can I clean the soft black foam roller and how do I get it out?
Thanks from a fixed income old codger.

Thanks for the response. I don't have any baby wipes, but have alcohol prep pads, used prior to a insulin shot and some Fresh Nap moist towlettes. Don't know what is on those.

Also do Ipry up the white shaft carrier or try to pry up just the metal shaft inside the foam roller.

    Thanks again

Thanks. I couldn't pry the roller out prying lightly and was afraid of breaking sometthing. I wound up using a vaccuum with the narrow attachment, going back and forth while rotating the roller. It worked very well but I'd still like to clean it your way when I finish with the printing projecct I have to do. Then, I'll try again to pry it out.

    Again, thanks...

The transfer roller (foam roller) should be easily accessible by putting a non-metallic object under the left end of the roller, down into the indentation, and lightly prying in an upward manner. I have used a baby wipe (non-aloe, non-perfumed, etc) to wrap around the transfer roller -- and then roll them both in your hand.

When you put the transfer roller back into the printer, the next few pages will look awful. Give it a minute to dry out -- and then print a real test page. Let me know how that looks and we'll go from there.

BTW, if this doesn't fix the problem, please don't rate the solution just yet. I have a couple other ideas.

I would pry only on the metal -- and with very little force. There is a plastic detent that hold the transfer roller in place, so removing the roller with a little pressure should work. Let me know how that turns out.

Also, alcohol will dry out the roller and end up making it flake pieces over time. If you can't get any plain-jane baby wipes, the moist towelettes should work for a ONE-TIME shot at cleaning the roller.

I'll await to hear your results.

HP LaserJet 4Plus - just changed the fuser and rollers - was getting smudges and shadow on the printer paper. Now getting (on the left 1/4th of the page) light areas with little or no print. The shadow...

Take the toner cartridge out of the printer. Shake it side to side. Reinstall it and print something.
See if that fixes the output.
Could also be the transfer roller.

Odd shaped smudge every 2 1/4 inches on left side of every copy about 3/4" in from left side of paper. Replaced cartridge and still have problem.

A repetitive defect at 2.2 inches indicates a bad fuser hot roller film. This is the teflon coated plastic film that covers the heating element and assists in bonding toner to the page. It will require replacement, unless you can see that something is stuck on the film., however in most cases based on the age of the printer you will likely need to replace the film.

2430 printing 1/2 inch marks down left side of page

Did you change the Toner cartridge? If that did not fix it :
Then the Fuser needs replacing. If you take the Fuser out from the rear, and rotate the drum in it, you will see the marks. You can try to clean it but experience shows that you will have to replace it.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Black smudge marks along left side edge of paper.

Its probably a defective toner. If the film on the toner drum is scratched it can cause toner to stick to the drum everytime it spins causing the constant marks.
