Question about Magic Chef Ovens
I have an old Magic Chef gas oven (Model 318Y44LW) that was recently re-connected to the gas line. It has been sitting in my basement for at least the past 4 years. I am not sure that the oven worked previously - but all the pilots light, the burners work and it was re-connected by a HVAC pro but he didn't know about old gas ovens. We lit the pilot for the oven, and it lights fine. If you hold in the knob after you turn it to WARM, after about 10 or so seconds, the flame reaches the thermo coupler, ignites the element, and stays lit for about 10 seconds. If you try and increase the temperature, it extinguishes the element, but the pilot remains on at all times. If I try to just set the oven - say to 350 - nothing happens...not sure if I am not waiting long enough or the oven needs repair... Thanks! OBTW...Harvest Gold!!!
Sounding like thermostat isn't working. If you could ohm out the t-stat should be closed when you call for heat. If that passes the test then only thing it could be is the gas valve.
