Question about Garmin StreetPilot 2610 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

USB port stopped working.

After a motorcycle vacation to Corsica in oktober connected the streetpilot to my computer to get the stored tracks and routes waypoints etc.
This would not work, mapsource does not fnd the 2610, to rule out XP and / or hardware problems i connected a GPS 60 device and this is working fine over USB. THe problem must be the streetpilot 2610, anyone any idea how to solve this ? Is this perhaps a known problem ?

I solved the problem, the USB port is a crappy half-way solution at Garimn so i found out. Its basicly the port on a small circuit board with pre-shapet (bend) copper sheetmetal contacts.

On the main circuitboard the same sheetmetal shitty contacts, after bending them all a bit wider, closed the Streetpilot and ..... Yes, the comuter finds the GPS and data is transferred....

I had a similar problem. The USB connector broke off the circuit board. It's not difficult to repair. Remove the rear cover, remove the small circuit board and carefully re-solder the connector, reassemble.

try plugging it in to the usb port on your computer, then if it starts, install the batteries.

if you did not get a usb cord with your gps, pretty much any usb to mini usb cord will work.

Battery on my garmin c510 sat nan wount hold a charge how easy is it to change

Had the same problem. Fixed with a new battery. Takes the same as a Streetpilot c530 and can be purchased anywhere on line. A 10 minute job with a soldering iron.

1. Open face plate. Unscrew 4 screws. Remove battery connector and clip.
2. Unsolder the wires to the two speakers - 4 wires.
3. Remove the sticky wrap from the old battery and place around the new one (to stop it rattling).
4. Solder back the new speaker wires.
5. Plug in battery, reassemble unit and charge Garmin off PC wih usb cable.
Done!

How to add a map to a streetpilot c330 without SD-card slot?

Hi there,

hopefully your garmin would have come with a USB cable to connect up to your computer, on most devices today this would be the same port that is used for charging the device at home.

Then if you head over to this link (Garmin website) https://my.garmin.com/maps/checkPlugin_updates.htm?
I assume you have a windows PC, here but tell me otherwise.
You'll need to install the plugin which allows garmin to communicate with you device (to find out what model you have, and the current maps stored, as well as what new maps you would require)

If you don't have the USB cable, there is the option to also enter the serial number of your device, likely to be in small print on the back of device somewhere.

Will not charge witg car charger

you'll need to use a usb cord to recharge it once the battery gets to real low. For some reason the car charger won't work. you can plug it in to the usb port on your computer or you can get a car charger that has a usb connection on the end.

Garmin Streetpilot i3 GPS cannot load map to memory card

I had this problem and the solution was to get a PCI USB card for my computer. My computer's motherboard didn't properly use USB and the Garmin GPS could never talk to the computer.

You can get a PCI USB card cheaply at nearly any good computer / electronics store, or even on Ebay. Once installed, just plug the USB cable into the socket on the PCI card and try the GPS again.

These would be the drivers that allow your computer to interact with your gps unit. If you use it as a standalone unit, then you won't need them. If you plan on saving waypoints and tracks or prerouting yourself and then loading it to your gps, then you will need to install the usb drivers from your installation disk, or from the garmin site before connecting your gps to the usb cable from your computer. Once loaded, you should be able to communicate with your unit and up/down load information.

USB port on Garmin Streetpilot I2

If the USB port is loose, that means that the port has come of the circuit board. This happened to a friend of mines, his son did not look which way to orient the usb plug and used brute force. It will need to go back to Garmin for repair unless you are or know of an excellent solderer as the conenctions are minute. The case needs a TORX 6 screwdriver.
