Trying to get Xbox live connected...

Follow these steps if you are trying to use a laptop :
1.
Make sure that your XBOX 360 is fully functional and your laptop is connected to the internet by means of a wireless card.
2.
Locate the Ethernet cord and connect it to both the computer and XBOX 360. Don't turn on the XBOX 360 yet.
3.
On your Vista, click "Start" then "Network". After select the tab "Network and Sharing Center." On the left tab, click on "Manage network connections." You will see a Local Area Connection and a Wireless Internet Connection.
4.
Use your mouse to select both icons and right click. Click on Bridge Connections. Turn on your XBOX 360, Sign In, and you will find yourself connected to XBOX LIVE.
5.
Once you are done, and you need to use your computer for other uses. Simply right click on the Bridge Connection and select disable.

How to connect Ethernet cable through the pc to the Microsoft Xbox 360 elite Game console for Xbox Live, without buying a separate router ?

You will need a cat5 or cross over cable, plug it into the pc and xbox, if you use vista then it is quite easy, goto the startbar and goto connections, you should now have at least 3 connections.
your connection to the xbox and if you have wireless your wirless connection or wired connection to the internet and a connection with just numbers 14... or somthing like that. Note that xp does not allow wireless and wired connections to be bridged, i dont know if they have changed this through updates, but last time i did this it would not let me. I cant remember the program that does allow you to do this on xp, but as i can remember it is quite hard to do.

You will need to bridge 2 connections, your xbox connection and you internet connection, to do this left click on one of the connections just to highlight it, press control(ctrl) key and hold down, click to highlight the other connection, you should now have 2 connections highlighted, now right click on 1 of them, in the drop down menu you will see a tab saying bridge connections, click on that and it does the rest. After it has finished bridging the connection you should have a new icon in the network connections window, it looks like a bridge. You may need to restart your computer to make the settings take effect.

Now try to connect to live on the xbox, you should be able to connect straight through the computer to internet connection, and also if using vista access your media.

You may have a problem with your NAT type after doing this. Usually it says you have a strict NAT type, you will need to forward ports on your router to enable you to connect properly, do a google search for which ports you need to open in order to remove the strict NAT, you also search on how to forward ports using google, all the information should be there. hope this helps. Post back if you need further assistants.

I want to open my NAT so i can play xbox live

Okay. If you look at Network connections on Start menu (XP) open network connections...
Then select the on you are connected to... (LAN or WLAN) Click the support tab and you will see something like "192.168.1.1"
Well type that into your browser, if it ask you for a password the default is normaly "admin" or "1234" (No quotes)
Temper with the "Gaming" or "Wireless connections" or "port forwarding"
If that does not work, are you sure you got xbox live gold?
(or hit the reset button on the back of your router)

I can't connect to xbox live , it tells me to test my connection , its going fine , halfway to through the xbox live bar then an update pops up , if i say i dont want it , it signs me out of xbox live

have you tested the Internet connection? what are you using wireless or wired? this isue comes up sometimes when you use wireless and it looses signal... this can happen if the xbox is too far from the wireless router OR there is interfearence ebtween the 2 devices (microwave, wireless phones, etc.)

I am trying to set up xbox live for my son but when i try to go live on the xbox dashboard it says that wireless network not connected but i have a wireless network running in my house and need to know how...

  1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.

  2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

  3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.

  4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)

  5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
  6. Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.
Tips:
  1. Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.
What You Need:
  • Active Xbox Live subscription (to access services)

Cannot get internet connection on my computer. Is this router compatiable with xbox live?

I do not know what Router you are talking about since you did not specify, but most routers are compatible with the wireless and ethernet function that the Xbox supplies.
Also, (and I have had this problem recently) having no internet connection on your desktop should not be affected if you are using the router to connect the Xbox, but if you are sharing the internet connection the wireless network will not function properly and shut down.
(It won't find a server)
