Do you know what causes it to stop spinning (bad capacitor, etc)? Can't be the heat since it only spins for 30 seconds, then shuts down.

I have read that freezing the hard drive sometimes allows enought time to remove the date in the normal way.

Why when I boot up my HP desktop Computer does it load up then stop and reboots in a cycle

Chances are it's OS or hard drive corruption. You may need to reload. If you haven't backed up your data, I would suggest doing so now.

COMP. JUST CUTS OFF AND EVERYTHING GOES DEAD. BLUE LIGHT BLINKS BUT WONT WORK TILL YOU TOTALLY DISCONNECT AND PLUG IN AFTER 20 MIN. T6528

Power Supply is the highly probable culprit on this. Call your local manufacturer to replace the power supply. Also, try connecting it directly to the power outlet (if it's connected to a power strip). Also, check the fans on the computer. All should be spinning and air should be coming out of it. Feel the air coming out, is it warm or hot. If it's hot then I suggest you really call your computer manufacturer or who you got this from since this needs more troubleshooting and probable replacement of parts inside.

Hi Good Morning, When i transfer the data

How big are your movie files in MB, and are you using your USB 2.0 to upload or USB 1? Keep in mind USB 2.0 is a little over twice the speed of data transfer, and how long is long? 4 minutes, 2 hrs...? Based on your specs, it shouldn't be more than a few minutes. Check your Task Manager for CPU or Memory hungry processes while transferring.

It sounds to me like you are having a problem with your motherboard, not your hard drive. If this is the case you should be able to either remove the hard drive yourself, or have someone else remove it for a small fee, and then copy the data onto another mac.

You can try a clean install with your operating disk but I wouldn't hold my breath. Also keep in mind that if you do that and it doesn't work you're potentially looking at lost data.

Sorry, but no spin, no win! Your hard drive enclosure has encountered a sever knock to cause headslap in the drive. You can rescue the data by purchasing a usb drive data reader kit. You take the drive out of the enclosure, attach the cables and plug it into a usb 2 port. You should be able to read the data no problem. Make sure you connect all cables to the drive, and it should be problem free for you.

USB Pen Drive

In win 98 eject pen drive before unpluging it.

In later windows use icon near clock ( bottom right of screen ) and stop mass storage device before unpluging it.

That should solve problem.

Do you have any data on the drive right now? the file system on the drive might be messed up... if you have no data, i suggest you perform a format. if not try to copy the data over to your hard drive then format it.
