Question about Medion PC Desktops

1 Answer

Medion notebook under warranty less than a year old it was plugged in and charging yesterday when there was sparks coming from the charger slot, and a few sparks were released. This had given me a bit of an electric shock. Then screen had gone black and the power had cut out. the main laptop itself works, but when you plug in a charger it cuts out. also, when you plug in the charger and then turn it on sparks have been released from the mains power plug, and the laptop doesn't accept the charger. in addition, if you take out the end of the charger, even after being plugged in for a matter of seconds, it is extremely and uncharacteristically hot. This had also happened to my brother's laptop less than 6 months ago. is it a design fault, can it be fixed, and can i get a refund/new computer?!

Sounds like the charge socket is not properly seated on the motherboard. I would call customer service on where you bought the laptop and tell them the situation. But by all mean DO NO continue to use it. You may do damage that they say "Is your fault"

Trust me I have had clients that have "Been there .. done that"

Good luck

I am not seeing any motherboards at the normal places I would look. How old is this computer? If it is less than a year, call Acer Tech support and they should repair it at no charge. As for sound card, it is built into the motherboard. If you have a PCI slot left open you could add a seperate sound card.

Hope this helps

Check and see if you conector into the pc is loose. If it is you are shorting the adapter and potentially the board. You will need to take the system to a tech that can repair the motherboard. If the system is still under warranty contact HP.

The battery wont getr charged form the charger?

It sounds like you have a bad battery in your laptop. If your laptop is several years old you will probably need to replace the battery. I've seen many cases where the laptop will work when plugged into AC power, but not with battery only. Batteries Plus is a good place to find them and they will properly dispose of your old battery also. Don't throw the old one in the trash - please dispose of it properly - Save the Planet! Hope this helps.

Battery not running

Possible that whoever replaced your battery sent you the defective one back. Note the serial and model numbers on the battery, then request another one. When you receive the replacement, do a full recharge. Most new batteries come already half charged. Even in this state, take time to fully charge it (between 4 and 8 hours depending on the type and model). Then try running it on battery power. If the charge holds more than 2 hours on a new battery, youre good; less than an hour new, its defective. If after all of this still not resolved, request the company honor their warranty (usually a limited one year with purchase).

I OWN A FOUR YEAR OLD M305 GATEWAY NOTEBOOK THAT HAS AN ON/OFF BUTTON THAT IS VIRTUALLY INOPERATIVE. cAN I SEND IT BACK TO THE FACTORY TO BE REPAIRED?

Yes you can, but it's no longer under warranty and they will charge you for it. My suggestion is to take it to a local repair shop; it should be much cheaper that way.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Toshiba A-135 Notebook only works with a charged battery but will not work with the AC Adapter. Is the system port bad?

It could be that the DC jack (what you plug the AC adapter in to) has become loose from the motherboard, or it could be the adapter itself. Plug the adapter into the computer, and -gently- move the cord, just a bit. Does the end in the computer move around a little? If so, you'll want to get it looked at.

If the problem is with the adapter itself, you'll need a replacement. I suggest calling up Toshiba and see about getting a replacement adapter. If the computer is less than a year old and falls under Manufacturer's warranty, any parts that you may need should be covered.
