I bought an Acer Extensa laptop, and when I load my at&t wireless card, the software loads up fine, but as soon as I reboot, the screen is black. I cannot do anything unless I restore to factory settings. If I do not reboot after installation, I can use the internet just fine. Any suggestions?

It could be that the wireless card in the BIOS setting has been disabled/switched off. Check your BIOS wireless setting. It could be that the wireless card driver has not been installed.
Download the device drivers from the Acer WEB site. Makesure you select the model of your laptop the drivers you that require thatmatches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link toget to the Acer support: - http://www.acersupport.com/drivers_download.aspx
Try the web address below. It is for Acer USA and should take you directly to the download site. Just choose "Notebook" then your model number, etc. and all the available driver downloads should show up. Hope this helps!
The "odd shaped port" you are referring to is most likely:
The Express Card slot (replacing the slot known as “PC-Card” replacing the slot formerly known as “PCMCIA”) are the biggest standard slot on a laptop designed to handle stuff like wireless cellular modems with antenna and micro hard drives. Most people won’t ever use this slot, but it’s a lot faster than it’s old relatives now that it connects directly to PCI-Express. From: www.geek.com
Do NOT put your memory card from your computer into that slot. Since you have indicated that the USB cable connector option will not work, you will have to go out and buy a memory card reader that is compatible with you memory card. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to find at most electronics stores. Plug in the card reader (USB) and seat in your memory card and the OS of your laptop should detect the card and allow you to download the pictures.
