Question about Sharp AL-1642CS Copier
My sharp copier has been making a few clunking/snapping noises while printing, but worked ok for about 2 weeks. suddenly it quit the snapping noise but now it spits out copies that are just barely visible. I would guess that from some other reports that I may have stripped some plastic gears (I'm starting to hate plastic). I've removed the toner and drum, but I can't see any gears that looked damaged. (I also replaced the toner, but it didn't help). I'm pretty handy at repairs & maintainance. Is there a service manual available for this model (on the net of course)? I really need a copier and may have to buy another of the same model just to get one quick and use the new toner I just bought.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Common defect on this model is the rachet gear which will cause some noise in your copier. check this out if it need to be replaced. Another that might cause that kind of noise is that the waste toner is full. Empty it and restart the unit.

Found that fuser wire had broken. Sharp wanted $140 + packing +shipping to look at it. Found that Staples had newer model on sale for $499 minus $250 rebate. Stripped toner & drum from old machine and bought new one.
