You may have a bad thermostat. Is it digital or an older style? Is your furnace running and not shutting off even though your thermostat is not set to come on? Please Clarify

The unit is on Heat, Fan Auto it's 36 degrees outside, Thermostate set on 73 Actual temp inside 70. Unit runs continuously. How can I get more heat. I tried Emergency heat and that doesn't help.

Have you cleaned the air return filters ? Wash them, don't vacuum or brush them. It damages the filter screen. Sometimes a thermostat will be out by a few degrees. If the filters are clean, try turning the temp down a bit to 65 degrees and see if the air con shuts down. ( If your room temp is showing 70, it should switch off the machine) If it doesn't turn off, keep reducing the temp by 5 degrees at a time and wait a few minutes each movement to see if and when it shuts down. If the machine keeps running, I would suggest your thermostat is shot and you will need a new one.

How do i change the settings from cold to heat on my aircon remote.

There should be a "mode" button. Press it until you get a sun symbol, then set the temp to 23c. You can run it in "auto" and just increase the set temperature, reducing it to 19 when you want it to cool again.

I have a 5 ton ac with two 10 kw heat strips. The problem is that the unit runs constantly on one stage with the temp. set at 66 degrees in the winter. The second stage heat will kick on if I manually...

Between two stages, the difference temp has been set up to call for second stage.. If you need immediate heat what you did is right. But again you have to reduce to your required temp. Hence, wait the second stage get started.

I turn the heat on sometimes it blows heat some times its just cool air.

Please keep your heat setting is maximum and then reduce. Some times if you keep +2 or +3 degree from room temp, frequent shut off heating will be there.

THe unit has only changed the temp from 89f to 86f in a medium size room ???

The portable AC units have a limitation when it comes to cooling a larger area, Since the unit is meant mainly to be focussed to an area it cannot be compared to the split unit or the window unit where we have the heat exchange exitting into open air. In the indoor unit the heat exchange also happens inside the room contributing to the reduction of efficiency. i would like to advice you to keep the unit closer to the exit or window. try to reduce the area by a false curtain and see if the result is good. Also make sure your filter is clean and the water is drained off.
If this makes a diffference reduce the thermostat settings to allow it to shut off and start again to prevent blocking. The AC should work bettter. Good day

One Step Beyond Castlelakein's

I hate to admit it but this is a common problem with the Honeywell S86A control. If you can find a heating slpy house neat you that sells to the public your lucky, more than likely you will have to get it from a heating company. a carrier/bryant/payne/day&night (all made by carrier) should have one on hand.
