When I look through the lens the picture looks fine , but when I take the picture it is blurry. I have wiped the lens off thoroughly to make sure it was not the lens. The camera is fairly new, bought within the last year

No picture or one that is all blurry? If blurry, Clean the lens and make sure it is not loose or damaged. The camera cannot produce blurry pictures at distances greater than around 0.3m ish as it has a fixed focus lens. If it really is blurred either you are too close to the lens, the lens to sensor distance is wrong (mechanical damage) or the lens is dirty. I hope that helps
I was loaned a DX40 just yesterday. I didn't get the Tech. manual, but did get a quickstart guide. I hope this will help, have you adjusted your diopter located on the viewfinder? If you have, then I haven't got a clue.
I just checked out the canon website, there is a link there regarding the CCD image sensory advisory. They are aware of the problem of all of a sudden getting a blurry picture and will fix it for free. Just call the toll free number on the site and they will send you a free mailing label and tell you what to do. They said it will take 10 days to fix, buy hey it's free.
i have the same problem buy a sandisc memory card not any off brand ones such as A data and it should be just fine i dont know if you have noticed by if you take pictures without the memory card just using the cameras built in memory the pictures show up fine
