Replaced cracked lcd screen

I replaced the lcd screen, put camera back together, now it will not power up.
Is there some interlock for reassembly, reset, or fuse?
I used freshly charged batteries to test.

    I don't have an a/c adapter.

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

Have taken apart multiple times to re-check connections/procedure.

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

There appear to be two ribbon cables involved.
1 for the LCD, 1 for the backlight.
I only replaced the LCD w/connected ribbon.
I reseated cable with no change in lack of power.
Power was working prior to LCD replacement.

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

My previous LCD screen cracked. I aready replaced it, thats when the power issue arose.

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

As previously stated, I already replaced the LCD.
I used the Thydzik link/web page for guidance.

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

Tried removing battery, pressing power button, replacing battery, pressing button- no change

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

    link was not helpful

  • phil_hurst Nov 25, 2008

I follwed directions, the LCD is placed properly, the ribbon is connected properly, no items appear to be loose, etc.

There is a tiny little switch inside the camera that is pressed when you close the battery door.

if the battery door is not lined up perfectly so that it presses this little switch when it is closed then the camera will not turn on.

check battery door to see if it is closing all the way solid.

ok then maybe check little switch that battery door presses when closed its on the side of the door that is in the middle of the bottom .

i only stress this point because i have experienced the exact problem your having with the exact same model camera that i have right here in front of me and i took it apart three times before realizing what was wrong and i didn’t figure it out until i pressed on the bottom of the camera on the battery door while pressing power at the same time and it turned on and it turned out that the very small plastic edge had broke off so that the door looked closed properly but actually wasn’t if you press on the door it should not move at all if you can press on it and it moves even a micro amount then it is not pressing the switch ..

that switch connects all power to the camera maybe board it is mounted to inside is not perfectly straight or something or disconnected or something

ok i just check my camera and the switch is right next to the sdcard slot its a tiny thin black thing like a little lever i am going to get out my other canon camera and take a close up pic of it and post it here in a few minutes so you can compare to yours

    see pic here:: http://systemonenetworking.com/fixya/can...

different screen won't work. The best case is that you would find a
screen that fits and uses the same connector. In that case if you use a
lower resolution screen you will only see a portion of what you are
supposed to see. If you used a higher resolution screen you would only
use a portion of the screen.

many cameras is often the cause of the LCD cracking. The case does not
indicate which way the camera should be placed. There is a snap-on
button on one side. If the user chooses wrong and places the camera LCD
in the case facing the button, that button with the right amount of
    pressure can crack the screen.

Better to contact manufacturer. They will help.

    Thanks
    good luck

No, but there are broken contacts and shorts, you need to disassembly again and to check all connectors.

I think there are two main ribbon cables connected to the board , and there are sveral ather connectors, if any of the cables had moved or had broken, the camera does not start up.

I see if I find disassembly instructions.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Nov 25, 2008

To start, if the LCD ribbon cable had shorted, the camera won't start, at home it is a bit of a problem to test this.

The other ribbon cable has also the lines that power the board, if the ribbon cable is damaged, the camera gets no power.

That is the best scenarion, because if something had shorted on the assembly, it can have blown soe on board component, and in that case it is unlikely a home repair.

Check also the connections in the red spot at the left there you find the cable for the on button , check connections in there.

See the disassembly here Powershot SD450

Sometimes soldering joint may break during disassembly, and that is difficult to find out.

I had my camera in my back pocket. I sat on it and cracked the LCD.

No way anyone can say what is defect. Not even sure the defect was induced while you cracked the screen and became worse during the "repair" or you did make an little error while putting things together. Even in my professional career as a repair engineer, Trying to find an error after a college could not get it fixed complete, were the most difficult jobs.
My best hint for this? start saving for a new camera. Will save you a lot of greef and a lot of time.

How to replace lcd on env touch vx11000

This one is VERY tricky. I wouldn't let anyone touch it unless they had a lot of experience taking apart phones and putting them back together. Basically, the LCD screen (all LCD screens) is stuck on your phone by a really strong adhesive sticker. I DO NOT recommend trying to pry it off because it will only break or crack a screen. What you have to do is unscrew those tiny little screws that connect the surrounding body of the phone to the LCD screen, then pop off the body of it. Then, CAREFULLY unstick the screen, replace it, and put it back together.

Cracked screen sony dsc-w50

Go to eBay or somewhere similar where you can buy a LCD screen for your Sony-W50 without having to swing by the bank and take out a loan.
Next, assuming you now have the LCD display, open the camera by removing the screws on side and bottom. Open camera carefully. You will obviously see the LCD display. It will be connected to the PCB with a ribbon cable. That ribbon cable will go to a header. Be very careful when releasing the ribbon cable header because it is very easy to damage the flimsy connector.
New LCD should plug in directly like to old one. Do your self a favor and insure the unit power up and the display is not garbled. You can get a garbled display if the ribbon cable into the header is not seated properly. Once you have observed a clean display, reassemble the camera and have fun. * * * * * * * * *C A U T I O N * * * * * * * * *  BE AWARE OF THE HIGH VOLTAGE ON THE FLASH CAPACITOR. Hey iheartcheer,
If you intend on paying someone to replace your lcd screen the repair will most likely cost more than the value of the camera, but you could have an estimate done at an authorized service center.

Lines across the LCD screen

Two things can cause lines across the LCD either horizontal or vertically. The first (and most likely) is a small crack in the display wafer. LCD stands for Liquid Cristal Display. They are very fragile and can be easily damaged if dropped. I broke one in my pants pocket.

The second would be if a pin on the ribbon cable (to the LDC wafer) was not making good contact. If you disassemble the camera it is possible to clean the contacts using contact cleaner (or alcohol). Only attempt this is you are willing to replace the camera if you don’t put it back together properly.

Cracked screen

these units are so fragile that you are undertaking very skilled surgery. it maybe that somehting became unplugged or pressured on the putting back together. Now that you have done it once, I would suggest taking it apart again and just putting it back together, it maybe that it will work the second time! there is no reset button that I know of. let me know if this helps.
