Question about Hitachi 50FX18B/19K 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

50 inch rear projection Hitachi looks like your watching in 3d

I have a 12 year old Hitachi model #50FX18B V6G002327 that intermitently has the problem of the screen duplicating and adding lines across the screen. It looks like if we had 3d movie without the glasses. It used to be that it would do this for 10 minutes or so and then go away. Now it does it from the second you turn the tv on and then comes and goes as it sees fit.

Please help, this is driving me crazy.

This is a convergence problem and igf you can solder, you can probably fix this yourself. If you feel comfortable working inside the set, and are aware of the dangers of the high voltage present there. try the following: Resolder the pins on the convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and should be marked STKxxx.

Keep us posted.

I need to find a replacement bulb for a Hitachi 50FX18B..vintage 1996...???

The bulb is a picture tube and this set has three, for you it means since the picture tubes for this model have not been available for several years you may need to retire it.

Yes - You will need to either remove the circuit board or lift up the tray. If you are not sure how to do it yourself read the link below.

  • This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

This is a problem with the convergence circuit. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Please note as well that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present even when the set is unplugged. That being said... Open up the back and locate the convergence ICs (large black ICs attached to a heatsink and marked STKxxx). Try resoldering the pins on these ICs first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. There may be other related components that need to be replaced as well, but start with the ICs.
