JVC UX-HB4 reading 'no disc'

I have had this system for a couple of years, but it has sat in an unopened box until now.  All original packaging remained intact, and it was stored in a dry place at normal room temperature. I now find that it will not play any CDs - display just reads 'no disc' and the machine does not even make any sounds to suggest that it is trying to read the disc. It has not worked once since I opened it.I wonder if you have any suggestions?

SOURCE: Cannot get music CD's to read.

The lens have a bad habit of falling out of the optic assemblies. They are held in with only a 2 dabs of glue. You can VERY CAREFULLY glue it back in. It is a plastic lens and affected badly by the wrong type of glue. Use a craft/modelling glue. DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE It will cloud the lens and render it useless.

  1. Remove the lid and remove the 4 screws that retain the laser traverse assemly(it has a brown flexifilm attached to it). dont UNPLUG ANYTHING
  2. Gently turn the entire optics assembly over by carefully maneuvering it(there is an earth strap to unscrew that may make it easier).
  3. Wit the assembly facing upwards, refit the lens back into the laser assembly, ensuring that it is sitting entirely flat
  4. Then use a tiny dab of glue( I use a Tarzan's Grip, a craft glue ) to EITHER SIDE of the lens making sure that it is dabbed on both the lens and the mount that it fits into
  5. Let the glue go off(couple of hours)
  6. Clean the lens with a cotton tip moist with windex(glass cleaner), and then again another dry one to be sure there is no smear left.
  7. Remount the traverse assembly and test
Check that the rubber suspension mounts have not perished also If they have collapsed(they should sit within about 1mm of the retainer screws when refitted), they will need to be replaced also. You will need to get them from a Pioneer service center. They are about $1.00 each.

APPLY SPARINGLY. Glue everywhere or on the face of the lens can easily destroy the coating.

This method works 4 out of 5 times without having to do the grating adjustments on the optics. And save you $100 for new optics and time to set them up. Good luck, and dont forget to rate me "FixYa" If you need more advice on these players... i have fixed hundreds of them. They are well worth repair and hard to replace with anything similar. .

SOURCE: Denon DCM 390 not longer reads discs--HELP!

Hi there, this lens may be dirty or it may have a thin layer of heat film that is causing it to not read in a consistent manner. i would try to clean the lens with a good CD lens cleaner. if the cleansing doesn't restore the lens to its original reading state, this will confirm lens assembly failure and you will need to replace this assembly.

SOURCE: Will not read the disc

The optical lens assembly is damaged at this point. the lens has burned out and the tracking/load motor seems to be faulty as well. replace the optical lens asap.

Hi , can you help me, my JVC car CD player doesn't play the cd ,it takes few seconds trying to read and then ejects the disc.

If this is only occuring when you try to play burned discs, try burning them at a slower rate (2x or 4x)
If this is occuring with storebought discs, You'll need to clean your laser lens. Cleaner Cd's are available from pretty much everywhere that sells Discs.

I received this as a gift and removed it from packaging but never used it until I got on a Train a couple of months later. I have been trying to get in touch with Panasonic with no luck.

I went to www.panasonic.com and the website stated under repairs but listed the following phone number;
Technical Support: 1-800-211-7262 (Mon-Fri, 9AM-9PM EST, Sat-Sun 10AM-7PM EST)
Maybe the website will work for you later today - i clicked on support and entered the model number you gave.
Hope this helps and please rate my solution!!

After years of working fine my Sony 5-disc CD recorder has suddenly decided that every disc is a "data disc." The music blanks that have always worked in the past are now being read as "data disc" when I...

Mine was doing the same thing. I even posted the same question. Then after reading through other questions, I found that the discs I was using were CD-R that would only record on my PC. They are Data Discs. There is a different kind of CD-R and it is for music only and they are marked CD-R MUSIC. The little compact disc symbol on the package should read recordable underneath. I had not used mine in awhile and forgot to look for that on the package. Now mine works, Hope yours does too.

My JVC cd player, plus Mini disc, and radio. CD will not play

Thank you for your email. The problem must have been dust. I kept putting the cleaning disc in for quite a number of times. Thankfully the problem was simple and it is playing super.

Kind regards to all.

CD player will cycle through all 5 discs and then show "No Disc"

HI. the main board is ok. this is the actions of a malfunctioning optical lens assembly. the lens is unable to read, due to the damage to its structure or, the laser has burned out.

The main board is programed to issue the (no disk) alert if the lens doesn't relay audio data. simply replacing the failed optical lens assembly will fix this issue.

When a blank cd is put in screen says "NO AUDIO CD"

Make sure that the CD-R you're using is a "Digital Audio" CD-R. The distinction is marked on the packaging and on the disc. The packaging usually says "Music CD-R." The JVC XL-R5010 won't take data discs to burn music.
