Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Installed the LifeCam V3000 onto a Pentium 4 with Vista. It works fine until I power up MSN and then even when the person I'm trying to communicate with accepts my invitation to talk, the box that should show me is black and white static.

Do a cam / mic test in the audio/video settings in the tools tab in msn / yahoo. Then ya need to minimise the msn / yahoo screen and r. click on the cam icon in the taskbar and check that the mic and cam are enabled and that it is set to allow other programes to take control of this device.. hope this sorts it for ya xx

What would cause a Dell Inspiron 580 that powers on but display nothing on the screen?

Some types of memory will only work as matched pairs, try only using two sticks of the same type, Otherwise check your memory and graphics card are seated properly, remove the power cable to the monitor for a few minutes then plug in, check you haven't loosened the monitor cable. Do you get anything onscreen? if you get start up then check BIOS see what memory it reports & the graphics settings. Its most likely something loose or the memory.

Is it possible to move Vista from one computer to another without the disc? I have a product key for the Vista that was installed. The original OS was XP and Vista was purchased and installed. I got this...

It can be done if:
1) the i386 directory was installed on the first PC
2) the first machine is being scrapped (must happen or you violate the Microsoft EULA)
3) you can burn a copy of the Vista i386 directory

There are additional things to do to complete the process, but the answers to the above will determine if it can be done.

I have an IBM net vista with a blue screen memory dump thing going on i dont have os disk and i need the files from this computer imscared and dont know what to do it wont even load my desktop just keeps...

If you have important files on the drive I would suggest removing the drive from the system, placing the drive in an external inclosure (or you could hook it up direct to another desktop as a slave drive) then backup your personal documents.

After confirming that all the documents have been saved I would then format and reinstall the operating system and programs and finally copy all the old files back onto the drive.

Let me know if you have any questions or need specifics.

Flickering MS Lifecam VX-7000

Try uninstalling the camera and disconnect it from the USB port. Then try re-installing the software and when it asks for you to plug in the camera, do so. I have corrected this problem with other Microsoft Cameras. Its worth a try. Hope this helps. Bud

Computer will not boot, and makes error sounds

If you mean the computer is emitting a series of "beeps", then I would try reseating the memory modules. If that doesn't work, try using only one memory module at a time to determine if one might be defective.

How do I get my web cam to work it wont let me have people see me & I can't see them help please my son is in Iraq & I really want to see him. Thanks Kathleen Zwicker

like for any device you plug into your computer, you need to install drivers so the computer knows what to do with them and you get to use them as expected... also once the driver is installed you may need to configure the program to start using the device.

try the following

1. install the device driver: your device (if bought new) should've come with a cd or a floppy disk that contains software and drivers. follow the instructions to install driver and device.

2. if you think you have installed the device driver check it's properly installed:
on xp: go to start>run>type devmgmt.msc
on vista: start>type device manager and click on device manager
...then look under imaging devices... your camera should show up and make sure there's no ! sign next to it.. if there's a ! next to it.. your driver needs to be installed or updated.. go to the manufacturers website and download an updated driver. uninstall the current driver and reinstall the new driver.
if you don't see the device but you see something that says unknown device with a ? next to it.. that's most likely your camera been unrecognized by your pc (your pc your put something in it but since there are no drivers it does not know what the device is or how to work with it..

3. assuming you intalled the driver and everything looks fine.. configure the device: I'm assuming you are using msn. so open msn, open a window to start chatting with your buddy and at the top and to the right of the activity bar there is a botton to show a menu.. click on it and go into >tools>audio and video setup and follow the wizard instructions to get msn to work with your new and installed camera.

if your camera did not come with a cd or a floppy you still need the drivers to work with it.. ask the person that sold the camera or go into the webcam manufacturer website and look for drivers.. if you need help, post details (make and model) of your camera and we'll try to help you..
now.. depending how old the camera is and if you're using vista you may not be able to get a driver to work with your camera and operating system, in which case you may be better off buying a webcamera that is vista-ready or you may have to wait for drivers to become avaliable for your camera, in which case it may take a while.
