Recording Freeview chanels

Although my Toshiba RD-XS34SB recorder records perfectly from my skybox it will not record from my new Freeview television (only analogue chanels not the digital ones. The Tv is an LG:- 22LG3000. As the Skybox is obviously digital I am baffled. The TV has lots of connectivity but only the 2 scarts have output as well as input. the skybox is also scart output and is ok.

Unfortunately this does not work.I have been told to ascertain this recorder is DVBT compatible. Can you advise please.

  • rodcliff Nov 24, 2008

I am still puzzled. Should this recorder be able to accept all digital chanels or has it been superceded by later technoligy?

The Toshiba RD-XS34SB can record perfectly any digital source, including your freeview box.

All you need to do is ensuring that you are connecting in the proper way.

Connect output from freeview into the Toshiba, and then connect toshiba output to TV.

Ensure that the recorder is set to record from audio input channel (line one/inpuut 1/av etc.).

This should allow you to record your freeview programs.

1. Disconnect the aerial cable from your TV, and connect it to the RF IN (FROM ANT.) terminal on the recorder.
2 Using the coaxial cable (supplied), connect the RF OUT (TO TV) terminal to the TV.
3 Connect the AV1(AUDIO/VIDEO)IN/OUT socket to a TV equipped with SCART input using a SCART cable (not supplied).
4 Connect the power cord to the recorder and plug it to a wall outlet.
TV stations (in the range of UHF E21-E69) will be stored in memory. The process will finish after a
few minutes. (The display on the recorder shows
“Auto” while the Plug & Auto Set Up function is
running.) Then the date and time are set
automatically from broadcast signal.
5 Check the following buttons work properly.

The DVD recorder does not seem to have Freeview built in, well no reference in the instructions?
Have you connected the aerial lead in/tested that it is OK for picking up analogue channels into the DVD recorder?. Recording freeview from the TV onto your dvd recorder means that you will have to have the TV switched on and will not be able to watch any other freeview channel other than the one you are recording.

As your dvd recorder does not have a freeview tuner then the easiest way to allow you to both record one freeview channel and watch a different freeview channel at the same time, is to connect a separate freeview STB to the AV2 input of your dvd recorder and use this AV2 source as the channel to record. (You will have to preset the channel needed on the STB first). AV1 on the DVD recorder should be connected to AV1 on the TV.

Problem with chasing playback during recording

Most HDD recorder problems are software related. The operating software of computers is often self-corrupting in use and yes a HDD recorder is just another computer.

There could be updated software versions available or perhaps the facility has been disabled to prevent other problems - minor software modifications and patches can be installed through the aerial without you noticing.

For such a specific question it is best to contact the manufacturer's customer service.

Wharfedale DVDR24HD250 DVD Recorder When set up will not find any programmes on Automatic Programme Search (APS)

Products such as this will use an internal tuner to tune channels, this tuner will not detect your televisions freeview stations, to record from your television, connect scart out from tv to the scart in on the recorder, then select the scart A/V channel, use the television to select the channel you want to record, you will not be able to record 1 freeview channel and watch another freeview chanel as you only have 1 digital tuner (in the television) the recorder does not have freeview built in.. hope that helps
