Re: attempt to capture photo fails
has corrupt driver. Disconnect
the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software
program. When the program asks you to connect the camera to the
USB port, do so and it should work.
to use it on the Web, do this. Web Camera’s have to be
setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera
on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for
the Audio and Video to function properly. A. Skype Setup:

Go to Tools,
then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone
and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.

Are you saying it will not take a photo? Try replacing/recharging the battery and take a photo of your self, and see if the lens moves freely and the shutter also moves. If that fails it may be a sensor problem (which would be bad news!)
When the shutter assembly fails all you can do is to set the camera to manual exposure, select the "B" shutter speed, and with the lens off and the back open, fire the shutter. In the B setting the shutter will remain open as long as you hold the shutter button, allowing you to see if there's an obvious obstruction.
If there's nothing obvious, then the shutter assembly must be replaced and as it's an uneconomical repair on that model your camera effectively becomes a spares donor.
You can get similar models very cheaply on auction websites or even for nothing at all on sites like FreeCycle and Freegle as they're effectively worthless, even in good working order.
Grainy photos is due to high ISO that is needed to capture photos in low light. The solution to that problem is to use flash. Blur in low light would be due to a long shutter speed in an attempt to capture enough light to get a properly exposed photo. Again, the solution here is to use flash. Auto mode with flash on is just fine in this situation-- you could also try night mode if you wish.
Turn the camera on and look into the view finder while you try to press the shutter button. Check the information in the view finder to see whether you are getting an error message. If you see an error message in the view finder, remove the lens cap and proceed to take a photograph but, instead of pressing the shutter button this time, press the button near the top of the camera on the back which says "AF/AE. If the camera takes the photo it means you have somehow initiated the auto focus/auto exposure lock which the camera will not override when attempting to take a photo using the shutter button. When you use the AF/AE button, you override this system. To remedy this issue, when you get the error message try pressing the shutter button again. Also, remove the lens to see if the shutter inside has frozen in the "locked" position. If you find this to be the case you will need to contact Nikon Customer Support. Go to your hard drive and click on Applications/Image Capture and it should allow you to choose which camera you are downloading from. This is assuming that your camera is being recognized by the computer. You can find out by turning camera on while connected and in playback mode and going to your apple icon/about this mac/more info and clicking on hardware/usb and your camera model should show up there if it is connecting properly.
