No power to the AC Adaptor

I pluged our Xbox 360 in to the mains and it would not come on, we dont appear to have any power going to the AC Adaptor. We have power from the lead as we have tried a friends AC Adaptor,

We contacted our local Games store and they said they dont usually blow and that microsoft would replace it. Is this true?

The ac adaptor light is permanently red

Hook up the ac adaptor and make sure the other end is not plugged into the xbox 360. if its still red then your ac adaptor is bad. If its still green then plug the other end into the 360 and if it turns red then that means the mainboard inside the 360 is bad.

Turns off immediately after turning on.

Try another known working ac adaptor and if you get the same symptoms then you know the system is bad, if the symptoms go away then you know its a problem with your original ac adaptor.

3 red lights on my xbox 360 please help

Hey cozierterry,

While this may be an indicator that something is wrong with your Xbox 360, there are a couple of things that you may want to consider before seeking additional assistance.

According to information provided by the manufacturer, the light on your Xbox 360's power supply should still light up green even when the console has encountered a three red light problem. If the light on the power supply isn't green, you will want to take different actions based on what color is displayed. If this light is red, the AC adaptor may either be defective or has recently overheated. If the light is orange, you may need to double-check all cable connections are secure. If the light on the AC adaptor isn't lit, the AC adaptor may need to be replaced.

Alternatively, you may want to try turning the Xbox 360 off, then pressing the power button again roughly 10-15 seconds later. If the unit powers on normally and the three red lights disappear, the system may simply have needed to be reset.

Should the problem persist however, you may need to speak directly with Microsoft for further assistance, as three red lights often indicate a hardware failure that requires repairs. You can reach Microsoft's toll-free Xbox support hotline at 800-4MY-XBOX (800-469-9269), or you can always request service through the Xbox website:

Hope this helps you out.

XBOX360

Hey 2hitz,

According to information provided by the manufacturer, when the power supply light is red this can typically mean that the XBox 360's external power supply (AC adaptor) has encountered a problem and may need to be repaired or replaced. Most problems encountered are typically limited to an issue where the system has overheated or there is too much voltage/electrical current for the power supply to handle.

I'd first suggest checking to see if the AC adaptor is properly connected to your XBox 360 or is warm to the touch. If the adaptor is hot, you may wish to unplug the adaptor for several hours to cool before reconnecting it to your XBox 360. Even if it is fairly cool, you may still want to see if disconnecting and reconnecting the adaptor resolves the issue. If the power light changes from red to an orange hue once you do, this can mean that the power supply may not have been securely attached and the unit is now in standby mode.

Next, if you have access to a second power adaptor, you may want to see if switching adaptors resolves the issue instead. If the XBox 360 goes into standby mode with a different adaptor plugged in but not the original, then the original adaptor may be defective and be in need of replacement.

Please keep in mind however, that if the lights around the power indicator light are also flashing red this may be a sign of an entirely different hardware problem. If you are seeing any of the lights in the outer ring light up, you may want to take note of which ones (and how many) are lighting up at any given time. Typically one flashing red light in the outer ring may indicate a hard drive problem, two red lights may indicate the XBox 360 itself has overheated, three red lights mean that the unit requires service/repairs, and four red lights mean that your audio-video (AV) cable isn't securely connected.

If you're still not quite sure how to proceed, you can always visit Microsoft's knowledge base website for more information and suggestions by using the link I've provided below:

http://support.microsoft.com/

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
