Cannot remove water filter.
When rotated from lock to unlock position will not release.
Upward and downward pressure in unlock position won't release.
Has been in place for approx 12 months.
Have inserted and removed several water filter units since 2004.

My filter would not budge until my son figured out that the top shelf in the refrigerator was too high. I took the top shelf out and it allowed the water filter to drop enough so it just came right out!

Here's the only thing that worked for me in getting the water filter out of my LG refrigerator after trying for three weeks, pulling hard by hand, using high-grip gloves, and trying an oil filter wrench. You have to break or lessen the suction created by the water in the filter. Do this by first turning the filter to the Removal position (in my case, a quarter-turn to the left). Then grip the filter tight and rock it back and forth slowly as far toward the back and front of the refrigerator as possible, while keeping a bit of downward pressure on the filter. This lets the two O-Rings "walk" their way down the insert tube. After only a few pushes and pulls - voila! -- it lets go and will drop right out.

For me the top shelf was too high and would not let the filter drop far enough to pull out. I had to remove the top shelf to remove the filter.

YES THAT"S the problem. The filter door NEEDS to open ALL the way to be able to remove the water filter because the shelf IS preventing the filter from releasing. I now WROTE inside my filter door to -1) remove top shelf 1st before removing filter as a reminder next time.

Thanks Jerry ... I am a handy guy but could not get mine loose and gave up ... It was exactly what you said , I took out the shelf which was in the very top holes and it came right out ... It let it go down the little extra it needed to dis-connect ... If I hadn't read your comment I would of probably have had to call a service tech ...

My maytag msd2433he only makes one tray of ice. It has a new filter, plenty of water pressure and no air in the line

Hello Dave;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.
Lets run a check on your ice maker:
1.) Remove the plastic front cover on the ice maker. Do not unplug your unit and do not remove the ice maker. Having removed the cover you will see a white gear with a plastic shaft in the center.
2.) On the right is a metal wire arm for turning the ice maker on and off. Put the arm in the down position and then lift it up until it locks in place. Did it lock? If not reinsert the wire end into the back of the motor module. The motor module is the assembly with the plastic gear.
3.) Lets cycle your ice maker. On the front of the ice maker there are 2 holes at the 5:00 position off of the dial they are marked 'T' & 'H'. With a short length of about 12 gauge wire, strip about 1" off each end. What you are going to do is put on end into the 'T' hole and the other end into the 'H' hole. A few seconds after the dial starts to rotate remove the jumper. Observe the complete cycle.
Does it fill with water?
4.) Remove the ice maker. There is 1 screw on the bottom - completely remove. There are 2 screws on the top. These are hangers. Back off the screws so you can lift the ice maker up and away from the wall. With a small screw driver wedge it into the wire harness connector to release.
5.) Remove the 3 retaining screws and disconnect the control arm. Inspect the subassembly for burn marks or broken plastic parts.
6.) You may have a bad thermostat. The thermostat is located between the ice maker module assembly and the cast steel ice cube mold. This sensor tells the motor module that the water is frozen. Then the motor module tells the heater which is on the bottom of the
mold, that the water is frozen and for the heater to turn on. Then the module tells the motor to rotate the harvesting fingers. Maybe a bad heater? Maybe the motor module is bad? Parts are available for your ice maker unit.

I can't seem to remove filter the cap came off but I can't seem to get filter out

With the cap off the filer was not turned far enough for it to clear the locks. Grab the filter with a pair of pliers and turn it to the unlock position then pull it out.

Ice maker inside kitchen aid fridge not making full cubes

Items to check would be ,
1 Is the filter restricted with sediment in the water?
indicator would be water flow decreased thru door dispenser.
2 Is the tap a line (if used) restricted with mineral deposites where the sleeve pierces the water pipe.
3 is the valve itself restricted with sediment due to not using a filter?
4 a kinked water line (copper) or pinched plastic line could also cause this problem.
eliminate each and you should find the problem.

Water dispenser on Kitchenaid side by side fridge running continuously

There is a filter but it sounds like the water valve in the back was stuck in the open position at first and now won't open at all or the micro switch is actuated when you press the water release is bad, but if I were to bet I would go with the water valve being bad, but change the filter anyway, there is no telling how old the one that is in there is.

How do I replace the filter in my whirlpool refrigerator, model GR2FHTXT

In the toe grill of your reefrigerator you should find a filter cap that is covering your filter. Rotate this cap to the left 1/4 of a turn you should feel the filter release from the housing then pull the filter out and discard it. Take the Filter cap from the old filter and reinstall on your new filter. Install your new filter in to the housing applying slight pressure turn the filter 1/4 of a turn to the right. You should feel the filter lock in to place. Now with a BIG container go to your water dispenser and dispense about 3 gallons of water.

We changed the water filter, now we have a blast of water then a VERY slow trickle this has never happened before wehave changed the filter at least once before.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. If this just started after a filter change then the problem is right at the filter. Here is what I suspect has happened. The filter is supposed to depress a flapper in the housing where the filter locks into. If by chance you got a filter that has the lock tabs in a slightly different positon or the tip is shorter than the previous one it may not be going into the housing far enough to open the flapper.
Remove the filter you currently have installed again. Then when you reinstall it
push very HARD in before rotating it to the locked postion. This should ensure the flapper opens and stays open. If you have the same symptom after doing this the tip of the filter may very well be too short to open the flapper.
To be honest I have seen this symptom often where the user has purchased the incorrect replacement filter and they experience the exact symptom you described. There are several different lock in type cartridges and the locking ends vary in length and the position of the locking tabs so if the wrong filter gets installed the end result is as you described.

If you pass your model number I will respond with the correct filter for your unit.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
