Re: prohibit intruders

Yeah, thats the most simple solution or that. also you could enable your wireless router to use WEP key that only you knows, in that way no one could access your wireless network witout knowing the key

Re: prohibit intruders

I have several of these and the easiest and most effective way is to use the MAC address filter. Your manual should explain exactly how to do this but if you have any questions let us know.

Can not acces my own home wifi, want to reset D-link and make a new access code

Reset the router and then configure it again.
To reset the D-Link back to the default settings -
Press and hold the RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON until the LEDs flash at the time the release the RESET button. (firmware version was 3.00, and upgraded to 3.05) Connect a LAN cable from the D-Link to your laptop/computer's LAN port, open the browser on your laptop/computer and enter the D-Link's configuration URL..
The default login = admin
The default PW = blank (just press Enter) You can now change the default admin password.
You can now configure the wireless settings. (WPA or WPA2 encryption) Now configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings. To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Router wifi and computer dont connect

Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. Toconnect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure thewireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ieSSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops cancommunicate with your wireless router.

connect your router to computer with ethernet cable.
Then you can access it with following link.

Laptop normally have single chip WiFi or Wireless Cards...

These cards could be used as client(connecting to wireless router), adhoc or access point(a WiFi card could be used as Access Point to route your LAN(Wired) connection on WLAN)...

Your laptop WiFi card is already busy as a Cleint, so if you want to use it as AdHoc, you have to remove all the other connection with the, Disconnect the WLAN from connecting other devices, and follow the below mentioed steps to connect your device..

When you are using Client mode you are not able to use it on Ad-hoc or Access Point feature...

Setup laptop to Ad-Hoc
1)Navigate to control panel and choose network connection, Right click on the Wireless network connection and click on the Properties on Wireless NIC
2) Click-Wireless Networks Tab
3) Click-Add
4) Provide SSID Name, name to identify you rnetwork
5)Security -Net Auth: Open
6)Make -Data Encryption: Disabled
7) In the check box present-Check on This is a Computer to Computer (ad-hoc) network.
Change the IP address of the Wireless NIC card, by choosing TCp IP in the properties of WLAN and choosing TCP/IP v4 from the installed service

TCP/IP on Laptop

TCP/IP on iPhone
-Static IP

Now try searching for Wireless through your phone, you should able to connect..
Please leave me comment, if you need further assistance

Changed from AT&T to a cable company for DSL. Trying to set up

You need to "fool" your cable box into thinking that the wireless router is the computer. This just means that the modem is locking into the first ip address it can get... it tends to block out all others. Here's how to remedy and allow everything to get access...

1 Shut off computers, routers, everything.
2. Turn on your wireless router FIRST... leave everything else off until you see it's completely booted.
3. Then with the cable connected to the modem/cable box and the router, turn on the cable box/modem and let it cycle up. This should allow the cable modem to "find" the wifi ip address as the main ip.
After that, turn on any other routers, and the computers...
This should allow you access to the net by any of your computers because the wifi router should give all the other comptuers and routers on the system inddividual ip addresses and all should be well...
Give it a try and let me know!
