Question about Symantec WinFax Pro 10.0 for PC

1 Answer

One line two Devices

I have an ISDN modem. The one line is going to a Fax Device and the other is going to a modem that is connected on Pc. ISDN is the same number for both of them. My problem is, when i'm receiving a fax, the Fax device always takes the faxes first and winFax Pro Showes to me a message that i have incoming Fax but it never receives them, it receives faxes only when the Fax device is busy. I want to receive faxes from both at the same time, can it be?

Thank you!!!

WinFax will support two modems, but I believe only one ISDN device. So, you can't use both ISDN and analog fax modem at the same time.

When transmiting it connects ok it negotiate ok but at the trainning phase it disconnects, it receives perfectly. very strange

Try sending more then one fax to different recipients, otherwise it is not clear if the problem is specific to sending to one machine, or all fax machines. You also should post the type of fax modem you are using, if you are using a VoIP (Internet) telephone line, and the current settings in WinFax under Tools, Program Setup, Modems & Communications Devices. http://www.getfaxing.com/forums

MY WINFAX IS NOT CONNECTING TO SEND. THE LINE WORKS, I HEAR THE TONE DIALER DIALING, THEN THERE IS A LONG PAUSE WHILE "CONNECTING" MESSAGE APPEARS. THEN BRIEFLY THE MESSAGE DISPLAYS "NO CARRIER" AND CLOSES...

This is usually a line connection, or dialing problem. Are you sure the fax modem is connected to a working telephone line? are you sure your sending to a fax machine? Do you require any prefix (like a 9) to make an outgoing call? Are you dialing all the proper digits to make a call?

How do i find out what modem to use for my win

Any internal or external modem less than 10 years old will support FAX-ing through it.

Telephone wall jack <--- telephone splitter --> telephone cord <--> modem

Telephone wall jack <--- telephone splitter --> telephone-cord <--> ISDN adapter.

I did not get a windows disk-I am trying to install total fax vs

If you are not using your modem to connect to internet or something else you can get by... Follow the steps...
Right click on "my Computer" click on "properties" click on "Hardware" tab click on "device manager" Find your modem in the list and click on it once. On the menu bar at the top click on "action" and select "disable" That should stop your computer looking for drivers for your modem.
If it doesn't work, it may be your web browser. Check your internet connection settings and make sure you browser is not trying to use dial up connection. Go to your internet explorer properties click on connection tab and check "never dial" option for dial up connection. Good Luck :)

Any received fax fails

Problems receiving could be any number of problems. The first item I would check it to make sure no other devices are on the same line as the fax modem, such as a fax machine. This can cause a problem for a fax modem to receive faxes when another line is being picked up and listened to at the same time.

Try looking at best buy for a fax switching device it can tell the difference between data and voice. I don't know how well they work but i have not used that particular program. I did find this though on another site http://www.windowsitlibrary.com/Content/238/15/1.html

You can have Microsoft Fax automatically answer every incoming call to your modem or, instead, you can manually choose which calls to answer. The quickest way to change this setting is to right-click on the fax icon on the Windows taskbar then choose Modem Properties to display the Fax Modem Properties dialog box . Another way to get to these properties is from within Exchange; choose Tools, Microsoft Fax Tools, Options, then switch to the Modem tab, select the modem, and click the Properties button.

So you have to change the settings in Exchange I assume
