I bought the laptop through Castle Hampers, I only got it on Tuesday, no one else had used it other than me. When I start it up the windows screen comes up. The computer was accepting the password all the time, earlier in the day, then I went to login that afternoon, and since then I could not login. Have tried the TimmayG solution, and does not work.

You can remove or change the Window's User oradministrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access todownload the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD.Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot upthe laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CDwhich contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removalprogram.Click on one of these links todownload HIREN'S BOOTCD :-http://www.hirensbootcd.net/http://126.96.36.199/
Dear Pimtosky, only an administrator is allowed to change / reset the password. - You can use the system default login because the default login password will be always '0000' (hour zeros without quotes) OR it will be blank (no password).
- I will explain how to go to the default login screen, - Start the system and when the welcome screen comes (or login screen) press ctrl + alt + Del keys more than one time until you see the classic login small window. - Now type ' Administrator "' ( without quotes) - In the password box type ' 0000 ' click enter (If this does not work try the next step below) - Leave the password box blank (empty) and click enter Now you will be able to login to your system, - Now your can change your windows administrator password by going to control panel > User Accounts > change password.
If you are still confused you can use any free 'windows password recovery' software. Download it and follow the 'how to' instructions.
Try logging in as administrator in safe mode if you have not tried that already. Some of the newer spyware/malware has been disabling admin accounts and wiping out recovery points. I battled some spyware last week like that.
When you get into safe mode are you only getting in as a guest or are you able to get in as another user?
Let us know how it goes.
If this in Windows password and xp, there a lot of utility to bypass or reset its password to nothing. If you can access the administrator account its password is only blank you will just hit enter. And upon entering the account change/reset your password for the user account you always use.
Try to activated the administrator account login in safemode. And login to that account if it can.
1: When booting up the laptop Press F8 until you see a screen show that has an option to boot in "Safe Mode" 2: Once it has finished booting up you can Select Administrator and hopefully there is no password set. 3: If there is no password set then login as Administrator and goto "Control Panel", Select User Accounts and change your daughter's password to something she wont forget ;p
What you can do is in safe mode, make another user account and you will still be able to access all the data by going to <rootdrive:\Documents and Settings\Administrator> try that and let me know. If you need steps in further detail let me know as well. It sounds like something has gotten corrupted. Thanks, Lee
