I bought the laptop through Castle Hampers, I only got it on Tuesday, no one else had used it other than me. When I start it up the windows screen comes up. The computer was accepting the password all the time, earlier in the day, then I went to login that afternoon, and since then I could not login. Have tried the TimmayG solution, and does not work.

I assuming you are trying to login from the same computer. Your computer might be infected. Facebook is not in your computer, so use another computer and see if you can login. If you can't then your Facebook account is compromised. Go to the main Facebook page and explain the situation.
On XP you can try this: Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows. Now you can reset windows password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
On Win 7 or Vista: Ctrl+Alt+Delete won't work, you have to use some windows password recovery software. I recommend Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 .

First of all try using blank (none) as password (otherwise at the log on screen hit "enter"). If this doesn't work log on at the administrator's account. To do this if you can see the administrator's icon click on it and use blank (none) for password again. If you can't see the administrator's icon, hit ctrl+atl+del TWICE and type as user "administrator", blank (none) for password and hit enter. After you log on as administrator change your user's account as you wish and you are ready to go.

Try pressing CTRL ALT DELETE twice at the login prompt and when it comes up with a typable login screen try your username there with blank password. If that fails try logging in with Administrator as username and blank password. If it says that the administraotr account is disabled in some way then login as administrator using safe mode with no password (press F8 on startup and select safemode from menu using arrow keys) When you login using administrator goto user accounts in control panel then modify account and remove password.
