You've got an expensive unit (see below for Press Release), with a built-in CD/DVD reader/writer.
Given that your unit could be six years old, it's possible that the reader/writer has "died".

It seems to be a "stand-alone" unit -- not something that requires either Mac OSx or Windows XP/Vista/7 to operate.

I'm guessing that _ANY_ IDE (not 'SATA') HP-brand reader/writer, provided that it has a "LightScribe" capability, could be purchased, and could be inserted to replace the "dead" reader/writer. For about $100, it's worthwhile to try this "substitution" to revive your unit.

You can now Enter the Vista DVD/CD Disk Installer inside the CD/DVD ROM SATA or IDE. 3 Restart your system unit to proceed to the operation. 4. Automatically the system will launch the Operating System Files and it will Record all your information inside your hard disk.

Hi brianlcrensh

It sound like you DVD drive is gone :O(
First bee sure that the DVD´s recorded are working normal in another DVD ex at your work. IF yes, then I could bee 2 solutions :
1. you have to less RAM and the processor is a old one and maybe you need to upgrade your machine.

2. your DVD drive is not working. The DVD drive and CD drive are running separately and that means you could still use this drive as a CD drive.
IF the drive is NEW you have the possibility to return it to the store and get a new one without costs.

Normally strange sounds on DVD drives means that the drive is damaged !! Today normally you can get a DVD drive for around 40 $ so making to much Trouble shooting and that drive could make many hours go for only 40 $. My last DVD drive did also make strange sounds and I did chance and now it is working fine.

TO CHANCE THE DVD DRIVE JUST OPEN THE COMPUTER AND REPLACE THE NEW DVD DRIVE IN IT (MAKE SURE THAT THE DVD DRIVE ARE MASTER OR SLAVE, LIKE YOUR OTHER DRIVE) OPEN THE COMPUTER AND IF IT TELLS YOU YOU HAVE A NEW CONFIGURATION THEN PRESS ACCEPT/SAVE TO C-MOS. WAIT A FEW SECONDS WHEN THE COMPUTER IS IN WINDOWS (IT TELLS YOU THAT THE WINDOWS HAS FIND NEW HARDWARE AND AFTER FEW SECONDS IT TELLS YOU THAT THE HARDWARE IS INSTALLED) AND NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE THE POSSIBILITY TO USE IT

here is a video to see how to do chance a dvd drive :

Copying Audio Cassette to CD

Generally speaking yes. You could take the audio outputs from the tape deck and plug them into the audio inputs for any line in the DVD recorder. Then press record. Finalize it once your done.

A more professional way to do it is to record them back into a computer. If you have Windows Plus! Digital Media Edition installed into your computer, there is an analog recorder installed. All you have to do is plug the audio output of the tape deck into the microphone jack of your computer. Then it will convert them to mp3 format. That way you can use Windows Media Player to burn the CD with by creating a playlist. If you have Windows XP and you need Plus! it should be available at any computer store for around $20.00. Wome versions of Vista may have this feature included into the operating system as well.

How much RAM needed to burn DVDs?

no, ram should not be the problem... you should first reinstall your os and use nero 6.66... that can happen because of many things but you can this before reinstalling:

make a new account on window xp, delet your existent...
start the system in safe mode... if it allows you to burn the dvd in safe mode your problem is operative system...

in fact if the problem is solved by burning from a new windows account... that should be all...

the problem could be caused by:

bad or low transference IDE cables... you need ATA 66 cables minimum...

problems with burning software ( if you already have nero, uninstall it completely and install a newer version), there are many free trials on the internet.

of course more RAM would be a great help... but the problem isnt that...
