My Australian map is now missing streets, it's only started doing this in the last month

I have Tomtom installed on my Imate Jasjar. I have the Australian Map set up on it.
I'm using a Globaltop bluetooth GPS, however I don't believe it's the problem, as even when I'm just browsing the map I am unable to bring up pretty much every street in the Country.

Please let me know what other information is needed, and where to find it... Thanks!

Would it be an update problem though? As the streets were all there about a month ago, and they've all disapeared since? They show up when I browse the map, but not when I search for them

    App Version 6.030

    GPS Driver v1.20

    Map: 'Aus' V675.1431

Where has the previous answer gone that was here before?? I was trying to do it at work, but ran out of time, and now I've come home to try it again and it's gone!

I'm not sure if this has worked, I now need to search for my product code!!But it's gotten me the furthest so far...

    Thanks

I don't think the update has worked. A lot of the streets have come back, but no where near all of them.

It not the update problem, i guess, u have deleted the road file from your GPS, consult your GPS provider/sevice center, they will help u to re-install your desired file.

ok we have had this problem before, try this solution.

This solution can be used in the following situations:

    • The device hangs in the start screen (splash screen)

    • An SD-card with a red cross is displayed on the screen

    • A picture with a red dot and white cross is displayed

    • The device can’t be turned off

If you haven't already done so, please download and Install TomTom Home from http://www.tomtom.com/7602

If you don’t have a full backup of your TomTom yet we advise you to make one
before continuing with the steps in this email. You can make a backup by
    following the steps below:

    1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect
    it to your computer.

    2. Click on 'Backup and Restore -> Backup' in TomTom Home 2.0

    3. Enter a name for the backup and click [OK]

    • IMPORTANT: When the software is asking to delete parts from the backup click
    [NO]

After the backup is made you
delete the files from the root directory of the TomTom. Follow the steps below
    to do this:

    1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.

    2. Open My Computer in Windows,
or Finder in Macintosh from your desktop
and turn on your TomTom device.

    3. On your screen a new removable
    disk
appears, this is your TomTom device, click on the disk
    to open it.

    4. You will see a list of folders and a list of loose files

    5. Delete all of the loose files. IMPORTANT: The folders with their content
    must NOT be deleted.

    5. Close the window when all files are deleted by clicking on the [x].

Next we will reinstall the application via TomTom HOME.

    1. Start TomTom HOME on your computer

    • TomTom Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install
    them, if not:-

    2. Click on 'Update my device'. If you get the message 'No Items Available', or
there is not an application to download, click on 'Add Maps, Traffic, Voices
etc -> Items on my computer', select the application and click on 'Add'.

    3. Select the Application update.

    4. Click on 'Device -> Disconnect Device', then turn off your device when it
is done installing and disconnect it from your computer.

    5. On a PC, in the System
Tray by the computer clock, click on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon and
disconnect the TomTom also in this way.

When switching on the device it should boot as normal again.

    Hope this helps

your not the only person who is going through this problem, what you have described is just the early stages of it, basically the file system degrades and re-install sorts it, you could just try update it again, but you may experience more problems, its a bit like a catch 22 situation really

    regards

no!!! that is a PDA device, hence "pocket pc" (palm held pc) do not try to install this software

  • Lee Hodgson
    Lee Hodgson Nov 24, 2008

yours is a GPS device not a pocket pc

  • Lee Hodgson
    Lee Hodgson Nov 26, 2008

you have to reinstall the software via Tomtom home as i decribed, your existing software is corrupt so no matter how many times you update the maps & streets it will not install correctly and your back to the initial problem

    regards

Make sure that your map is enabled with a check mark on the map info screen. If the map info button is grayed out, then this means that your map is missing.

I have just purchased a Garmin 1390 GPS with both NZ & Australian mapping, I am going to Oz today and donot know how to access the Australian maps, it just starts with NZ ones.

Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol)
Press SETTINGS (the spanner symbol) or LOCALE on some models
Press MAPS

There will be a tick beside whatever maps are selected. If the Australian map is not selected press the map name and it will be selected.

When you go to Australia the satellites should automatically pick up your location and load the correct map. If not or if you want to save an Australian location in favoutites before you go;
Press WHERE TO
When the screen comes up to enter the address you'll see NZ as the country selected
At the bottom of the screen you'll see an item CHANGE COUNTRY
Press this and you can select Australia
This should bring up the map of Australia and you can enter addresses there.

Assuming you are in Aus now, i have found a website that you can buy online which is

If this works there, click on the first map, S- Series platinum 2009 Australia maps and click buy now $149.00, But if this is not what you want you can always exit the screen, I hope this is useful Bob, Good luck mate, Colin, UK,

Some POIs are missing.

Nothing.
Not all business's will show up. Try putting in their address's.
Also do you have the latest maps. New maps are released about every 4 months. I bought the life time maps upgrade for $99.
Or, you can buy new maps when you want, but the are about $80 each. Ouch on that!!

Can t see street names

Are the maps unlocked? You need to enter a 25 digit keycode to unlock the maps, before you download them to the memory card. What size card do you have? This since there are issues with the 256 MB cards/SP3 that have been sold the last two years. Garmin Will replace these cards with two 128 MB cards

The only way to update the maps is to purchase new maps from Garmin and download them via the computer. The 2008 map updates are currently available, and Garmin has told me new maps will be out in a few months.

Verify that you have the correct basemap for the country that you are in. There are two maps inside a new Garmin. The basemap which shows all the major highways and mapsource which shows all the street. If you don't have the correct basemap try changing 'Navigation' Advoidance to avoid highways and Toll Roads.

You can transfer the UK maps to an SD card which you can then insert into the Garmin. This way, you'll have both UK and Australian maps on your GPS. Got to Setup to choose which map you want to view.
