First make sure you have a good ground. Remove the negative cable where it grounds to the frame and use sandpaper to make sure it is clean. The most likely guess is a bad voltage regulator (if equipped with one) or the charging coil that is under the flywheel. Use a multimeter set on DC voltage to check the output to the battery when the engine is running. You should see a reading of around 13-13.5 volts. If less then this it is most likely one of those two items.
A lot of these tie rod ends are not crimped tight enough to hold the ball in the socket. Try a new one from J. D. if it does not hold up look for an aftermarket part from another source.
