Question about Frigidaire GLTF2940ES Front Load Washer

Our front load washer will fill and drain, but won't spin

We have a Frigidaire Gallery Series front load washer that is less than 3 years old. It won't spin, but it will fill at the start of the cycle, then shut off. Then when it is switched to "Drain/spin" it will start to drain, but won't finish the cycle and it never starts spinning. The belt is good. We took the motor off and tested it to see if the motor will go to ground and it doesn't. What can we do to fix this problem?

I have the same issue. The drum does not turn at all. I have replaced the speed control board having been told that was likely the cause but it still does not run.

  • Anonymous Dec 03, 2008

We bought the same washer in MAR of 2005, in FEB of 2008 we had to repair both mounts for the drum and replace the out rubber boot due to mold issues. Now the washer will not spin, very dissatisfied with this washer, will never buy fridgidair again, shame on them, we paid $1274 for the washer/dryer pair at Lowe's, and it only lasts less than 4 years. The dryer has issues as well.

Solution: take off the back off the door on the back of the washer. Look underneath where the drain hose attaches to the pump. Squeze the clamp to loosen it and pull the drain hose off of the pump. Feel inside the opening of the pump side and there is a flap which is there to prevent backflow that gets stuck in the wrong position. Tear the flap off as it is what is causing the problem. Put the hose back on and enjoy your washer working again.

The flap getting stuck in the wrong position is preventing the washer from draining. When the washer will not drain, it will not spin because it is too heavy and there are sensors to the electric motor which de-activate it or put it back and forth into drain mode.

I am not a washing machine mechanic - I just have the same problem and through trial and error figured this out.

Tearing the flap off may void your warranty so do it at your own risk... I'd rather not have a flap than have a washer that does not work.

    Chow!

No do not tear the flap off! That was a bad idea! I thought that was the problem. but now my washer is not working right. I have to go buy another flap......

Sorry. I still have the same problem.

OK. It looks like it is working. I have never seen it drain this good, since I have been working on it.

Now it is going into full spin mode. This thing spins super fast. Let me check the clothes real quick. Wait! It does not work because when it is in the last spin mode it pulls the water from the discharge line back into the washer - because there is no backflow preventer - the flap.

Conclusion: I think the flap is still the problem with the drainind in that it gets stuck in the tube in the wrong position. Only there needs to be the flap for the drain to prevent the old water from coming back in.

Maybe a better made flap than the factory flap...

ck to see that a control lock light is not illuminated, as far as fisher and paykel pressure swithc is part of motor controller under main console. removing screws behind console allows you access and from ther i would remove clear plastic tubing from right side of control and blow down the line (sometimes detergent will block other end not allowing proper readings)

if your washer is digital or with elecronic control board check the the motor control board located at the bottom difiniely you have to call a tech to confirm that. other model like wd5595 and wd 8095 has the same problem and it is the motor control unit that always fails.
