Microwave Won't Start

Lights on. But no reaction when we touch the buttons. They beep but don't do anything.

1450 Watts, over the range. Manufactured in 1999. These are expensive babies to replace :(

It's a Daewoo KOT 210UW over-the-range microwave. (Sorry, I thought I entered that on one of the fields in Fixya).

Right, none of the keypads respond, except, oddly one: the P (power level), but you cannot enter any numbers, cook time, start, etc. It's stuck with a previous cooktime in the display. (We must have opened the door mid-cook. When you touch the cancel button, nothing happens.)

The cooktop lights are not stuck on and won't shut off.

Thank you so much for trying to help! We really appreciate it.

We have done a hard reset and still the same problem. The 1:00 time displays and you can work the Power Level button and the auto-cook button but all the rest are dead. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your advice about using the fan and keeping spray cleaners out of the way.

Our appliance service man came over and said we need a new control board but wasn't sure if the part was actually still available. They will let me know later this week. Can you source the part? How much? Again the unit is a Daewoo KOT 210UW

Thanks so much, guys. We ended up buying a new micro. The repair store said the part was $250 and it would take 4 weeks plus there would be their labour charge. I'm really annoyed because at that cost I never would have paid for them to come and assess the problem ($80) in the first place. A new micro costs less than the $250+labour+$80. Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks for trying. You are very professional and it would have been nice to do business with you. Daewoo doesn't exist anymore and we should all remember that.

first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

Are you saying that the cooktop lights are stuck on and won't shut off?

Are you saying that none of the pads on the keypad respond, or that the pads that control the the lights do not respond?

Also, please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

Is it possible that some spray cleaner accidentally got into the controls?

Direct spraying of cleaners on the keypad and steam from the cooktop can damage the controls.

Always spray non-ammonia cleaner on a soft cloth (not a paper towel which can scratch) and gently wipe the keypad.

Always use the vent fan when cooking on the stove top to keep steam and grease out of the controls.

If it did get damp and it does not dry out over time, it may need to be manually dried or blown out.

The keypad may be damaged or worn out, or control unit may have some corrosion.

At this point, I would suggest service.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

If we had to replace the keypad, that would add some to the cost, maybe $50 for the average Daewoo.

(I just sent a few to Daewoo tech assist to get part pricing and availability for the keypad, board, etc. in case they're needed or to give you a better estimate.)

Plus there would be an additional shipping charge of $15 for Canada.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

I have faxed Daewoo Technical Assistance to see if they can supply me with a board or keypad, etc.

    I'll let you know.

So the service guy's saying it's the board?!?!?

It appears that both of my faxes to Daewoo got misrouted, at best.

I won't speculate beyond that in trying to determine why I did not
get our answer to this inquiry yet!

But this is at the top of my "to do" list for Friday.

I'll report back to you as soon as possible, especially since the "Thanks for Trying" rating hurts my top-level Guru rating so much! :)

Besides, I want to do my best to help posters in any case. :)

I would think it is the keypad, not the control board.

You may be able to get the peel and stick keypad, the control panel frame with keypad, or the entire control panel frame with keypad and control board.

In the US, these range form about $50-100, respectively.

I have been informed by Daewoo US Technical Assistance that your best bet is to contact Reliable Parts (I would call them on the phone) to see if they have any parts for your model.

    Good luck!

happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your

I have the same microwave with the same problem...frozen keys. I think it might be the "child safety lock" I could not locate a user manual, but other similar daewoo microwabes disable/enable it by holding the Stop/cancel button down for three seconds. Try it...didn't work for me, but it might you. I am trying a hard reset now.

My GE stainless steel 1100 watt microwave starts beeping out of the blue and the display panel shuts off and when I open the door it resets itself and then starts to beep when I close the door again.

Try removing the power cord for about a minute, push all the touch pad 'buttons' and then plug it back in. If this doesn't work it sounds like you may have a bad door interlock switch or a bad PCM .. Good luck !

I have a microwave oven over the range ,brand Frigidaire , model CFMV156DC purchased in 2006 and stopped working , even the lights on the front panel are on when I press the start button it happened just a...

I have exactly the same problem. Everything works perfectly even fan, except microwave table won't turn. I just found out what's the problem... The door for some reason is sitting too low now, even though it is not obvious at all. It looks leveled with everything else, but it's not. Set your Microwave to let's say 30 seconds and turn it on. It will not do anything... but you just gently lift the door (while closed of course) few millimeters and your Microwave will start running like new. There is something wrong with those latches on the door, not touching the microswitches inside the Microwave. Doors must be properly closed in order for Microwave to work. This is due to poorly design. I yet have to figure out how to fix that permanently.

Works fine, except the beeps suddenly went silent. Examples: 1. When food is finished cooking, no beep any longer. 2. When pressing any key to set for cooking, no beeps any longer. Never thought that...

On page 21 of the owner's manual (online here), that's covered under "AUDIBLE SIGNAL ELIMINATION":

If you wish to have the oven operate with no audible signals, touch CUSTOM HELP, the number 2 and STOP/CLEAR.

To cancel and restore the audible signal, touch CUSTOM HELP, the number 2 and START/MINUTE PLUS.
