Check the AV wires. I've pulled a mistake before where I plugged the Video wire into one port (say AV2) and the audio into (say AV3). Drove myself nuts trying to figure out what was happening (video but no audio on AV2, and audio but no video on AV3). Eventually I fixed it and it worked.
Make sure the wires are in the right AV ports. If that's not the problem, then it's probably an issue with the TV. If that's the case, hook up a GameCube or a similar console (provided you have one) in the same ports as the PS2. If it does the same thing as the PS2, then it's probably the TV's fault. If it works fine it's most likely the PS2's fault.

Well the LCD or TV must have rca..jacks yellow video..red and white is audio..if not u can get a component jack wires for PS2..red.blue..green...video....red and white audio..the TV must have those connections ..for PS2..or get old school cable connected hook ups for PS2..hooks in cable or antenna connecter on TV..UHF connected for ps2
you need to hook up the ps2 directly to the tv not the converter box the converter box is only for digital Chanel's that will go off air on june 12 but if you have cable or satellite then you don't need a converter box this is only for free Chanel's with they don't requires subscription to cable or satellite your playstation should work with out the box try to hook it up directly to the tv not the box
It may be the T.V. And make sure that the connections are with the right colors, take a light back there and check to make sure. You said the T.V. plays through black and white, maybe the T.V. is old and can only play black and white but those cables will not make a T.V. go to color.
If your sanyo has a video input (yellow) available, and audio inputs available (white and red) then you just need to connect them. Then you need to select the proper input on the TV set. These may be on the back, side, or front of the TV.
try to trouble shoot if the wire is the problem, how? remove the 3 colored wires from the tv and ps2 then try to use the red color instead of yellow to the video from tv and ps2 (both red) temporarily do not use the yellow color. once a picture appears use now the white for the audio (both white) for left audio once there is a sound you may try the yellow for the right audio. i hope this will help you and hear a positve reply from you.
