Re: re:philips

It might test ok resistance wise but might break down under the load of the television in operation. Then again it depends on how badly it was burned.

How can i fix a rca tv, mod. 27v412t cuts on and off?

this kind off problem is related in power circuit board or may be the main board ,kind of electronic problem, not mechanical ,related with electrolytic capacitor, may be two or three or one, this is dried up capacitor,or devalued capacitor in rating or leaky capacitor,or broken leg capacitor, one pin break in the bottom of capacitor main causes are heat or power serge or getting aging old ,because these capacitor not functioning ,therefore no enough voltage for on off TV function,so TV wont come on,some times come on,some time press power button lot of time then come on,now it wont come on at all completely, these or the symptom of intemittent power button function, peoples think that button have only the problem and replaced the power switch only and tv should work ,but deep down lot of work in circuit board analysis and repair work needed.,to make TV function normally.

I have a Proscan that will sometimes come on by repeatedly pressing the power button and then sometimes it will not. I have unplugged the unit and left it that way for a couple of hours and then plugged it...

Yes my friend you have to send it to a qualified repair shop because you have a leaky electrolytic capacitor on the low voltage power supply sometimes on the regulator section.Leaky electrolytic capacitor will affect the performance or the power supply that's why sometimes it will power on and sometimes not. It will getting worst and worst if will not isolated.
It is better to send to repair to isolate the faulty capacitor or do resoldering on some dry joints around the regulator section because sometimes dry joints will do the same thing like what you have experienced.
Thanks for using fixya....

Magnavox color tv model no 20MT4405/17 vertical shrinking

Vertical shrinking means lack of height we thinks. If there is a height problem for philips tv, surely some of the philips electrolytic capacitors should be replaced. Most of the electrolytic capacitors made by philips shows either a slight leak or lack in capacity after some years or days after use. When replacing them make sure to select other brands of same capacity and voltage ratings. If this doesn't help, get into the service mode of that tv and adjust "VH" and "VLI" functions, if you knows the service mode code. If you don't know it, please get assistance of a technician.

TV won't stay on...

Either the capacitors in the power supply are bad, or the caps on the main board. You can test them with a capacitor tester or ohmmeter.
It is common, especially in newer devices.

Replacement Parts: Replace the original four (4) 1000µF, 16V, 85ºC capacitors on the DM Module with Radial Polarized, 1000µF, 35V, 105ºC Capacitors.
Description: Computer Grade Electrolytic Capacitors or High Temp Electrolytic Capacitors; Capacitance = 1000µF; Voltage = 35 V; Operating Temperature Range = - 20º C to + 105º C; Termination Style = Radial, Operating Hours = 10,000 Life Hours. The original DM capacitors are rated at 1000µF, 16V, 85ºC. Do not use capacitors with this rating to repair your Mitsubishi television, or else the same issue will reappear in 1-2 years.

The capacitors are available from several on-line electronics stores and possibly from a local television repair
GA_googleFillSlot("TL-IMU-Article"); shop. I recommend that you use ONLY high temp Capacitors rated at 105º C, with a voltage rating of 35 V. Refer to the "General Information" section below for additional information about purchasing the capacitors from a online website.

My philips televison doesnt turn on Previously I would just unplug it and plug it back on and would turn on I believe that its the on/off switch that isnt working properly. The TV works it just cant be...

try this before you toss it...recently my magnavox 37" had been takign upwards to an hour to turn on. this past tuesday i check these threads to determine the problem. like many have said, its probably the capacitor, which it was n my case. basically i took everything apart and the bad (2) capacitors were obvious. one was oozing the electrolytic fluid and the top of the other started to 'dome' on the cap. i then went to a local electronics store (not radio shack, parts are too specific)... $3 for the (2) capacitors and a $20 solder iron. then you just de-solder the bad caps' and replace. i took the approach that - "what's the worse that could happen, the tv already didnt work?" well i just completed teh fix, it took about 3 hours and saved me nearly $300 that i didn't have. you can't be without your flatscreen at the beginning of football season!!!

gook luck

Tv will not turn on

Depending on the model number, there are a number of things that could be wrong. Even within a given model number there are a number of possibilities. I have seen everything from rectifiers to horizontal outputs to bad electrolytic capacitors to bad solder connections kill these things. If you are skilled and experienced these are a few things to check. If you do not have repair experience then please stop, put the back on it and get it to a repair facility. I rarely have estimates declined on these because you can not replace it for less than most repairs will cost.

Good luck!

Horiz. lines across top of screen.

I agree with solution #2

I recently had my phillips 27" model 27PT6341/07 repaired after warranty expired due to white lines appearing at the top of the screen. The shop advised that it was a capacitor giving me the problem. So, after getting it back, I examined the repair job and the shop had replaced a capacitor at the back of the main board, next to the rear rca inputs. It is labeled 10uf 100v. I was told that it would fail again soon because it is a manufactures defect. For me it is at location 2465. Here are a couple of photos of the part.

Good luck,
