Question about Video Game Consoles & Games
If your like me you probably have another computer around. We need to "Borrow" its monitor. If not see if a friend of yours has one you can use for a day.
Replace your monitor with the "Borrowed" one and fire it up. If you get the black out right away, try the previous tip with this monitor as well. If this Monitor works, then we have determined that YOUR Monitor has (In gaming terms) "Been fragged". If its an older Monitor its entirely possible that running L4D at max resolution might have been just enough to push it to failure.
If the "Borrowed" Monitor exhibits the same symptoms even after the test. Then the blame lies on your Video card.
Whichever one failed check to see if its under warranty (Not likely for the monitor unless it's less than a year old) But for the video card, if it's by a bigname manufacturer (ie... PNY,BFG, ASUS etc...) then try to scare up your documentation and receipt because alot of these companies offer a Lifetime warranty and you'll get your card replaced/repaired for free. Sometimes if its a discontinued model you even get a free "Upgrade"
If you don't have a warranty. Get a service quote. Find a place that'll give you a free estimate. If you can't find a quote for less than half the cost of purchasing a NEW replacement, then your better of getting a new one. because you'll benefit from "New" technology AND you'll get a warranty with it.
Sorry for the bad news
Hope this helps
