How to move the fridge

How do you unlock the wheels on the fridge to allow the fridge to be mobile. When the fridge was placed in it's position the technician was able to roll the fridge into place. I am wondering how to make that happen again if possible.

Re: How to move the fridge

The wheels are probably OK, the tech likely lowered the leveling feet in the front to keep it from rolling by accident. Turn the little level legs (the screw up into the fridge) until the weight is back on the roller wheels, then you should be able to move it. A pair of "channel lock" pliers on the rubber feet work the best depending on how much weight is on them.

I want to move my fridge but it's locked in place. How to unlock?

Hello Tina;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You did not post your model number which is located on a label on the inside liner wall of your fresh food section.

First remove the bottom grill or toe plate in front of your refrigerator. This plastic piece is either held on with one screw at each end or pop out clips. If clips pull the plate straight out about 2" from each end. This plate is easier to remove with both doors open.

Refrigerator Leveling Screws: Most refrigerators have two leveling screws in the front, one on each side. These screws are for leveling the refrigerator from rolling on the wheels. Turn these screws counter clockwise.

Refrigerator Wheel Locks: Some refrigerators have a lever bar on the outside of the front wheels to lock the wheels in place.

Refrigerator Independent Wheel adjustment Screws: Some refrigerators have two hex head screws on each side. They raise and lower both the front and back wheels.

Moving a fridge or laying it down.

Moving a GE, Hotpoint or some Kenmore refrigerators can be more of a job than you dreamed.

Did you know that the defrost heater of some of these models are made of glass and wire? They really are! Glass and wire!

A little bit of a rough ride or a bump can break it. So if you move a fridge and 2 weeks later it does'nt work you probably have broke the defrost heater.

Thats not all! Surprise surprise here is the big news. YOU CAN LAY A FRIDGE DOWN TO MOVE IT. Who would have guessed right? How many times have you heard that myth. Plenty I am sure. But its true you can.

Here is what to do. After you are finished with the move and the fridge is in the upright position,,,leave it up for about 6 hours before plugging it in which will allow enough time for the oil to flow back to the compressor so it starts pumping freon while the tubes are clear and you will be good to go.

Thats it,,,,I am sure this will help someone.

Fridge door magnetism does not work - when closing door does not pull shut?

if it's new or recently been moved for some reason, Making a minor adjustment to the front wheels, slightly positions your Refrig. so that a rear-tilt causes gravity to allows the doors to close, assisted by the weight of food products on the door.
If you've had it for some time, You might want to check and clean the metal surface area and the door gasket on the hinge-side. As a habit, cleaning door gaskets, with soap and warm dish towel, will preserve the life of the gasket and save you couple of bucks down the road.

I need to level the refrigerator. The back needs

Hello Monty, If you can roll the fridge out, you'll likely see the adjustment screws for the rear wheels, (if equipped). If the rear wheels are fixed, as most are, you can put a couple of wooden shims down on the floor where the wheels will be and roll the fridge back into place and then make the leveling adjustments from the front wheels.

If the amount of height adjustment is greater than a half an inch, you can use a solid piece of plywood the width of the fridge and about 4-6" wide and place that at the back. Roll the fridge in until it hits the plywood and tilt the fridge forward about 2 inches and push it back until the rear wheels are on the plywood. You can then, again, level the fridge using the front wheel/leg levelers.

I've found that it's easier to get a good idea of just how much out of level the space is where the fridge is being placed. Then you can make the changes using the best materials for the situation. Shims are fine for small adjustments, while the full width plywood is more consistent and easier to adjust, as the fridge will likley get moved out every 6 months or so, for cleaning of the coils and behind the fridge.

Remember that ideally, you want the front of the fridge just slightly higher than the back, so the doors will close by themselves, when opened almost 90 degrees and released by hand. Gravity should then take over and automatically close the doors, ensuring a good seal to keep the fridge closed and running properly.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Broken amana refrigerator wheels

Usually the roller for the rear of the fridge has an axle that is just a pin that will slide out(need a model # to know for sure) and the weight of the fridge holds the pin in place.
