Belkin 54 encryption

I have a belkin 54 to which my PC is attached and a laptop which gains internet access through the wireless connection. My system is not encrypted and I need to do this. Would someone be able to tell me how I can apply encryption?
Paul I have a Belkin54 installed in 04 (expires August 2038). One of two computers using the connection crashed and the Windows 98 was reinstalled in the Dell by Staples. I have Windows just fine but I cannot find the original Belkins info which I think was a disk. I have copied most of the data from the still attached computer and I have the original 13 pairs of the code that I think I used to access the Belkin's wireless. Is there a means of getting instructions, downloads, or re-installing Belkins54 access in the refurbished Dell????

Firsty you have to connect the router diectly to a pc via an ethernet cable, once you have connected the two and made sure that the router is not connected to the modem, open a web page, in the address bar at the top of the window type http://192.168.0.1 and hit enter, this should bring the router access page, password is usually "belkin" or "admin" (lower case) you can then go into the settings and set the security up you desire
belkins default user name is your isp user name in some routers!!

Hello,

Open your internet browser and type: http://192.168.2.1

Then you have to search for the option to set up a password.

When it ask you if you want a WEP or WPA password you wil have to decide that.
(WEP are easy to "hack" so, i recomend you to select WPA. It will be a longer password but it will be safer)

Good luck,
Dahaka

How to use router without using wifi in belkin n150

This model Belkin wireless router has 4 LAN ports so you can connect a LAN cable from this wireless router to your computer.
I suggest you disable the wireless in the router so no one can access your network and Internet. If you cannot disable the wireless then you can setup WPA2 encryption to secure your wireless network or just remove the aerial off the wireless router.

The PC connects to the Internet because it uses a network cable that is attached to the router.
The laptop connects to the router with a wireless connection, you most likely have enabled encryption on the router's wireless settings and if the laptop's wireless card has not been configured with the router's encryption settings, then it cannot connect to the router via the wireless until you enter the encryption (security) key.

Trying a add another desk top to an existing Belkin wireless G router at home. Right now there's a desk top and laptop working off this router.Try several times and still can't connect to internet.

Make sure the Belkin wireless is the only device directly connecting to your internet service provider's router/modem. Usually that port is labelled "WAN" or even "Internet". The Belkin should have extra ports/jacks for WIRED connections, right? You then connect the PC into the other remaining ports/jacks on the Belkin (if they're wired) or just use the wireless for the laptop if the laptop has wireless. After getting the wireless going, though, you should lock it down by using WPA encryption key if possible.

Belkin 54 Wireless Internet Connection Problems

Hello,

If wireless adapter on the laptop is fairly old, you may need to update the drivers for the wireless adapter. Some older wireless adapters are not capable of properly communicating with WPA devices. Typically a driver update of the laptop resolves the issue. If not, try another wifi adapter and verify it is not the OS or laptop itself.

Good Luck.

Belkin wireless security

plug a laptop straight into the router with a cable. then open an internet browser and type in 192.168.0.1
type in the username and password. the default will be admin for username and password for password. then close the browser and unplug the cable. it might detect wireless internet after a few seconds. if it doesn't, it is possible that you have a PC set up as the internet gateway for the laptops or something, so when you introduce encryption the laptops can't get access. in which case you should go to your wireless icon on the laptop and click that and open the connection list. double click on the wap secured connection and try to connect. it should ask for a username and password, which you have secured the wireless encryption with. enter that and it should connect to the gateway.
dunno if this helps, good luck

Belkin 54 encryption

1. Log into your Wireless Router or Access Point.
Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the Wireless
Router or Access Point. (The Router’s default is 192.168.2.1, the
Access Point’s default is 192.168.2.254.) Log into your Router by
clicking on the “Login” button in the top, right-hand corner of the
screen. You will be asked to enter your password. If you never set
a password, leave the password field blank and click “Submit”.
Click the “Wireless” tab on the left of your screen. Select
the “Encryption” or “Security” tab to get to the security
settings page.
2. Select “128-bit WEP” from the drop-down menu.
3. After selecting your WEP encryption mode, you can type in
your hex WEP key manually, or you can type in a passphrase
in the “Passphrase” field and click “Generate” to create a WEP
key from the passphrase. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. You
must now set all of your clients to match these settings. A hex
(hexadecimal) key is a combination of numbers and letters from
A—F and 0—9. For 128-bit WEP, you need to enter 26 hex keys.
For example:
C3 03 0F AF 4B B2 C3 D4 4B C3 D4 E7 E4 = 128-bit key
4. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. Encryption in the Wireless
Router is now set. Each of your computers on your wireless
network will now need to be configured with the same
security settings.
