Question about Durabrand CD/MP3 Player, CD-968 Personal CD Player

1 Answer

Trouble Reading Discs

My personal Durabrand mp3/CD player will not read any discs I place in it. I have tried several formats of discs, but all I get back is a display that says "Bad Disc". This occurs both with discs that are brand new, and have never been touched, and discs that are ten years old and have scratches all over them. I think it is the player because those same ten year old discs will play in my most cheap personal players, but not in this particular one. If anyone has an answer for me please notify me at the email adress below.

Thank You.

There are two possibilities either there is dirt on the CD lens that needs to be cleaned off. Or the lens has a scratch on it and will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: CD and MP3 discs burned or otherwise do not load

I have had mine for 3yrs and it just smoked last night(12/04-03/08). I had it in one of my demo cars to prove a point. That a properly installed and maintained budget system is possible and will outlast and out perform many Well Know brands. I have 3 show cars for my shop one budget(montero), mid level price point(dodge stealth r/t) and a full blown w/ ppi amps, mb quart speakers eclipse devices(bmw m3)
The PPI amps have smoked several times, to the point that I no longer carry PPI. My point being that no matter what you buy there is a good chance it will breakdown w/o routine cleaning and care.

SOURCE: Displays "No Disc"

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)
Good Luck

SOURCE: I need manual. I have

You don't need a manual to use it: select the cd from the source button, put the cd in, wait for it to be recognized (the number of songs or folders on the disk will appear on the screen) and press the Play button. If the disk isn't recognized then the dust on the lens is too much - clean it. If even after you have cleaned it the disk is still not recognized then the lens has been damaged by the dust = the unit is dead, junk it.

This model DVD player can play the following disc formats:

DVD-Video (Region 1 or relevant region coded store-bought movies)

DVD-R (must be finalised on appropriate recording equipment for compatible playback)

CD-R (for jpeg/mp3 media files)

CD-RW (for audio such as mp3)

music CD (such as store-bought albums)

This player will NOT accept DVD-RW/+RW discs, or Blu-Ray.

I hope this helps you a tiny bit.

We have a Durabrand portable DVD player, the issue we have is once we place the dvd in, the screen reads loading, then reads no disc. We have tried several discs. Any free troubleshooting suggestions?

hello

use a cd/dvd lens cleaner kit or if that does not work, you will need toopen lid, access the lens pickup, and clean the lens directly, using isopropyl alcohol with cotton sticks.
anyway if these all dont help you need to replace pick up with a new one. i recommend original spare parts as those sold on ebay mostly chinese production with low quality and durability.

kind regards

Getting disc read error

THere are a number of problems that can cause a disc read error. The lens can be damaged or very dirty. The motor that moves the les could be stuck or damaged. The disc could be dirty or scratched. Or the disc format might not be able to be read by the player. Do you try more than one disc? Are you trying different types of discs? like store boght discs and recordable discs. Some players wont read mp3 or cd-rw discs.

Hi. I have owned my Durabrand Personal CD Player

Most likely the trouble is that the laser has just worn out and can't read discs any longer. The power drops with age and use, and sooner or later this happens to any CD player. The low cost of these personal CD players makes them uneconomical to repair.

My front loader reads disc error or unplayable no matter what disc I insert. It worked just fine for about 2 years. It doesn ot get heavy cd use, but everyday radio/alarm use.

To resolve this issue, try one or all of the following:
  • The Wave® music system is designed to play commercial CDs, CD-Rs, MP3-encoded CDS and CD-RWs. If your system has trouble playing MP3 CDs, make sure the discs were recorded with compatible formats. See Cannot play MP3 CDs

  • The system may not be able to play certain CD-RW discs. Playability is dependant on how the disc was recorded, including the format it was recorded in and the actual disc used for recording.
Note: iTunes defaults to AAC as the encoding format. In order to use iTunes to make CDs that will play on the Wave® music system, you’ll need to change the format to MP3 How to Choose Import Options

  • Different brands of CD-Rs and CD-RWs use different materials which may affect the ability of a player to read them. If you are burning your own CD-Rs or CD-RWs, experiment with different brands of discs

  • If a commercial disc won’t play, check for scratches, fingerprints or other physical damage. Try the CD in another player. If it still won’t play, there may be a problem with the disc

  • Reset the system by disconnecting the power cord from the wall for one minute, then plug the system back in

dot.gif Unable to read a CD-R or other recordable disc. Question: Unable to read a CD-R or other recordable disc.
Answer: Unfortunately this can be a difficult question to answer because of the amount of potential reasons for this issue to occur. Below is a listing of several steps and recommendations that can be taken to help identify the cause of the issue and/or resolve this issue.
Drivers Verify you have the latest drivers installed for the CD-R or recordable drive. There are numerous driver related issues that may cause a CD-R drive or other recordable to stop reading a CD-R disc. If you are running Microsoft Windows verify your drive is properly detected and listed in Device Manager with no conflicts or errors.
If Windows Device Manager detects an error on the drive or if it has other drives listed in Device Manager with errors on them remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the computer to let Windows re-initialize the drive.
If Windows shows no errors, the above steps did not resolve the issue, or you are running a different operating system check with the drive manufacturer for updated drivers. A listing of disc drivers can be found here.
CD-R disk Not all CD-R disks are compatible with all types and speeds of CD-R drives or other recordable drives (especially earlier CD-R drives). Verify the manufacturer gives 100% guarantee for supporting all drives and disc speeds, for example, TDK discs often give a 100% guarantee.
Pre-mastering/Mastering Software Pre-mastering software can sometimes produce incorrect tracks due to bugs. An incorrect ISO image could be generated, or incorrect sub header codes could be recorded in the case of Mode 2 discs. A good way to check whether the incompatibility problems lie with the originating software or with one of the other causes listed above is to test the same disc on several CD-ROM drives. If one drive is capable of reading the disc back correctly, chances are that the problem was not in the mastering, but is one or more of the other factors listed.
Disc is a recordable disc that the drive or player does not support Verify the drive supports the recordable media you are attempting to read. Below are some situations to watch out for.
  • Old CD-ROM or early DVD drive - Some early CD-ROM drives and Gen 1 DVD drives (some of the first DVD drives released) do not support CD-R discs and/or CD-RW discs. Not only does this apply to computers but also home entertainment DVD players.
  • CD-RW in CD-R or CD-ROM drive - CD-R drives are incapable of reading CD-RW drives. If you are using a CD-RW disc verify the drive is a CD-ROM or CD-R drive is capable of reading the disc.
  • DVD recordable discs - If you have a DVD recordable disc and are unable to get it to read verify that the DVD drive is not a Gen 1 DVD drive and/or that it supports reading the DVD recordable media you are using. Additionally a standard CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, etc drive is not able to read DVD discs.
Disc was created incorrectly Make sure you're creating the disc properly. For example, a common mistake users make when creating audio CD's that they can listen to in their computer, car, or home stereo is burning the MP3 files or other files directly to the CD as a Data disc and not an Audio disc. All this will do is burn the data files to the disc and not create an audio disc. This may allow you to listen to the audio files in the computer but will not allow you to listen to the music in the majority of other CD players unless they support MP3 format.
Disc or DVD contains media content not supported by the player Not all home entertainment DVD players are capable of supporting and playing all the different formats movie files and audio files are stored in. Make sure the format or codec of the movie or audio file you're saving to the CD or DVD is supported by the DVD player. If you're computer is capable of playing the files off the DVD but your home entertainment DVD player is not able to play the file it's likely you're encountering this issue.
Bad disc If after reading through the above recommendations you still continue to have the same issue it's possible that the disc is a bad disc. Try re-burning the disc and if possible try a different type of recordable disc.

Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
