Viking Designer 1 won't embroider

I have a Designer 1 with about 67 hours doing mostly embroidery. It recently started to freeze up and after sitting overnight it would be ok again. Two days ago it froze and I cannot use the touchscreen, even after letting it sit. I can sew with it but cannot adjust stitches or anything else that requires using the touch screen.

I have seen some of the older style machines that are very susceptible to static charge. Usually this doesn't happen with newer ones. If you get static shocks on door knobs in your house, do not touch the screen of your machine with your finger. Use a stylus instead. You may also try touching the metal presser bar just above the foot and ankle when sitting down at the machine prior to using the screen. This should not be happening with a new machine. Check with your dealer.

I have a viking designer 1. When I put the embroidery arm on the pressed foot will not stay down. But does stay down when regular sewing arm is attached.

When embroidering, the presser foot hovers above the fabric a few millimeters. The machine does this automatically.

How do I find out the embroidery time on my Viking Designer 1 sewing machine?

Hi there, If your trying to find out how long it took you to embroider something, You need to go to your touch screen menu- touch Set- then down at the bottom left of this screen and touch More- three (3) times you'll get to where it says Running time:(It's the 3rd Selection) There it will actually show you the total running time (Sewing and Embroidery If you haven't zeroed it out by hitting the zero (0) next to that selection.) You can do this on the touch screen with the embroidery unit on or off. You need to touch the zero (0) to zero out your time before you start an embroidery project. Once you've done this and you've finished an embroidery you can check how long it took by the touch screen menu- Set- touch More 3 times and there you will see how long on the Running time it took to embroider your design. I hope that helped. The total time your machine has ran (Embroidery and Sewing) is kept in Memory on the Service Screen that your Technician gets into when he services your machine. So your not actually wiping out that. The Set menu is just for you to keep track of how long your machine sews or embroiders something pretty much. I hope that helped you out with your question. Happy Sewing!! Kathy

I have a designer 1. recently when i go to embroider, it starts fine then just goes hay wire and put teh embroider all over the place- not like the pattern. Sound to me like the emb. unit? thanks kathy

Hi Kathy, I'm sorry your Designer 1 is not feeling well.8*( It sounds like to me you need to get your embroidery unit re-calibrated by your local technician. When was the last time you had your machine serviced? Are the designs you are trying to embroider stock designs or your own designs? Have you tried resetting your machine by turning it off and back on again and let the machine calibrate again? (Take the hoop off before you do this and put it back on after you have selected your design) and try it again. Also how old is your machine? They had a recall on Des 1 purchased between 1999-2004 for a power supply problem. The serial # and recall info is on the Viking website at- www.husqvarnaviking.com. Also do you have enough clearance around your machine where the hoop is not hitting anything while it's embroidering that will throw it of big time! Hope something here helps you! If I can help you further you can also email me at- [email protected] Happy Sewing!! Kathy ( from 1 Kathy to another)

Machine will freeze up on me while embroidering.

The e-unit may need calibrating. These are older machines and not like the ones out now. They are louder than the new embroidery mechanisms and not as smooth running as the newer ones. But when properly calibrated they do okay but are not the best quality. Don't compare them to the newer machines. It may be the computer board is going out too. If that happens, there isn't a way to fix as the boards are obsolete unless you can get an old one for parts. Check with a dealer for availability. Good luck.

I am trying to embroider something for the first time on my viking #1 husqvarna. Do I need presser foot Q/ or R/ .If it's R,I can't find it-what does it look like? I need someone to walk me thru the steps...

embroider on #1+:
If it's a #1+ I recommend the Q (the spring works better) it's hard to put on, but worth it.
Here we go:
1>Turn off machine (always when installing or removing embroidery unit)
2>Install Q Foot. Always leave presser foot pressure (on left end of machine) at 6 for presser foot Q
3>Insert Embroidery Card
4>Insert Embroidery cassette (matching #’s with card)
5>turn on machine
6>Turn on embroidery unit (on cassette)
7>Select design
7>Thread for color 1
8>press reverse to start the machine embroidering....weeeeeeeee!

Viking designer se limited

You can find this information by touching the configuration icon (this looks like pliers). The item that shows you how many sewing hours is called Timer. You should know that this can be reset to 0 by anyone.
