Question about Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Starting point is wrong

Whatever I do the NUVI wants to start from a location 60 miles from my home as a starting location. I have tried changing my home address but that does not work. Whatever I do as soon as I turn the GPS on it goes to that location. I don't even know what the location is. What can I do? Thanks.

As you are turning on the unit press and hold the lower right corner then it will come up with a reset option. Reset the unit. If that does not work please reply back with the model of your Nuvi unit.

Try instead the reset with the small hole in the back. Press it in for 15 seconds then turn off and on the unit.

My daughter has a nuvi350. She used it to get to a location away from home and now it will only show that as her starting location, We have deleted all locations and the unit shows the same coor. wherever...

I am not entirely clear of what your problem is. But i assume you have set your home location, hece that is why the map always uses that reference to start from.
If it doesa not advance beyond that point when travelling to a new address i can only assume you have no satellite connection.
This is caused by a few things, but the main one is battery level. Make sure its fully charged.
second point is you do not have a clear sky view.
3rd point is you have blown the SIIRF chip lets hope its one of the two minor ones I mentioned

Location is not shown correctly

everytime u turn the GPS device on it takes anywhere from 30secs to 4 mins to find and lock in the satellites . Once the satellites locked in it will be then start taking ur commands. In ur case u turned it off as u started driving and when u restarted it , it had a memory of where u turned it off and displayed u the location where u turned it off which was ur home, right, now if u would have waited till some satellites locked in , it would have then automatically displayed ur then current location. so next time when u start the unit (any GPS) wait till it locks in the satellites.

thank.

I tried to fix a problem similar to this for 1and 1/2 hours. Ahhh! However, after raising the antenna, (in back of device), the satellite picked up my exact location. Hope this helps.

Change Home Location on Nuvi 660

Go into 'Where To', 'Favorites', 'HOME', 'Edit...', 'Delete'. Then from the main map screen you can tap the screen and 'Save' the location as your new home. You can't save a 'Home' location if there's already one called that in memory, so you have to delete the old one first.

(I have a 680, but I assume it's the same)
