Automatic height adjust for Eureka 4700A ''Maxima'' doesn't work

There is only a hole underneath in the plastic housing that the wheel assembly fits up into to adjust for carpet or smooth floor etc. Looks like there is supposed to be a part that fits in that hole but numerous online searches for the part haven't turned up anything for me. The assembly is supposed to be self adjusting. As is there is no adjustment that I can see and the vacuum just sucks down onto thin carpeting making it difficult to move.

My vacuum doesn't do well at all on bare floors. I thought that it was kicking up debris through that hole under the adjuster, so I covered it with duct tape. Not sure that's helping. This model does not appear to have a motor filter; the manaul says to clean it out.

I do not know if mine is the santria brand but are you turning the knob on top of the solution carrier to off before trying to suck the water? Renee

SOURCE: Eureka The Boss Smart Vac,

It is a simple fix that you need. Your belt needs to be replaced. After a period of time, the belt stretches to the point where it is still strong enough to spin the brush when you have the machine upside down to look at it, but when you put the machine down on the carpet the belt is too weak to turn the brush against the resistance of the carpet.

Most Eureka belt changes are simple to do and the belts are inexpensive.

SOURCE: How to change belt on Eureka maxima 4700a

hey i had the same problem with mine, (standing over it and looking straight down) there should be two screws on the top of the yellow cover, one on each side, take those out and the yellow cover should easliy pop off. if the white ink is off the belt or the belt isnt tight than replace, once off just pop the wheel brush (which has the belt around it) up out of its socket and take off of the belt from the wheel brush and motor's metal pole, then put on the new one just like the old one was. let me know how it works out, redsox_belcher@yahoo.com

SOURCE: In Carpet setting, the vacuum brush does not spin

I put 3 turns of electrical tape around the area of the beater bar that meets the vacuum belt. This solved the problem short of replacing the beater bar.

The roller stops when I start to use the vacuum. Is the auto hight adustment bad?

no. The auto height adjustment has nothing to do with this. Sometimes on these units the belt will stretch even just due to normal use. It is recommended that you change the belt at least once a year. Twice a year if you are a pet lover.

Good luck

Change belt on maxima 4704

If you don't see clips or screws the underneath (base), there may be be 2 screws on the top side that have to be removed. This will allow you to remove the bottom in order to replace belt.

I need to know what type of belt my Eureka Maxima vacuum takes.

The belt you need is one that fits the 4700 series or if you find any other Eureka packaging the belt would be the "U" series. You can find them at Wal-Mart.

Height adjustment won't work

The height adjustment for the vacuum will only work when the handle is in the released position. The knob will turn easily when the handle is locked upright, and when released you should feel a fair amount of resistance.

Vac is supposed to have auto height adjustment but it doesn't

If the brush isn't working then its maybe because the drive belt is broken. Locate cross head screws on top of the hood of the Eureka vac (two at the front usually and one below the duster or at the left hand side if looking at the vacuum from the front) Once the screws are undone check to see the drive belt is intact. If its not then replace with a new one and check at the same time that the roller brush is properly put in. If the drive belt is ok then check the brush roll - something may have jammed it if it isnt the belt. Dont forget to rate please.
