Washing machine (fisher & paykel - 5.5kg - approx 8 yrs old) starts and stops, over a few times and then after a about 3-5 times of it starting and stopping just starts to beeb - I have taken the clothes out of the machine but that didn't seem to help either. I have tried to start the machine at different stages of the cycle, (fill, empty, rinse, spin) it starts to do what it should at these different stages but then it still does the same thing - starts, stops, starts, stops then starts to beeb...

A good brand name that would be dependable and would stop you having a whole bunch of problems would be a Kenmore. You can go to this website and choose a model based on your needs and uses and they should be within your budget: http://www.kenmore.com/shc/s/c_10154_12604_Kenmore_Washers+&+Dryers?adCell=AH
You can even find a store near you so you can pick it up.

Sounds like you have a relay that's going out. When your selector knob moves from one cycle to the next, there is a series of relays that tell the circuit board to shut down one operation and begin the next. Sounds like your main board relay is about dead. A new relay can be acquired rather easily and should also be rather inexpensive. In fact, it should be cheap enough of a fix that I would recommend having a repairman look it over just to make sure that you replace the right relay. Hope this proves to be useful and I wish you a pleasant evening!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls post back the exact model number. This is important to narrow down the applicable symptoms and possible corrective actions. Offhand, the problem could be anything. In the mean time, pls check:

  • does the water fill in as usual;
  • do you feel the motor running;
  • does the drum/tub spin;
  • does it drain.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    If you are considering a replacement, might your choice be any known brand and model to suit your requirement. But additionally or more importantly, one that has known good after sales service and is represented within your immediate area.

    You could consider LG, Maytag, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Kenmore, GE, Hotpoint, AEG, and others.

I put heavy wool items in my ecosmart Fisher & Paykel washing machine (approx 9 yrs old) and after it filled with water and drained the water, it beeped unbalance so i added something else to balance...

You should not continue to run the machine until you rectify the issue with the pump. Check the resistance of the pump's coil. It should be 7 ohms for the model GWL15. If the resistance is different, there is a problem with the pump electrically and it needs to be replaced.

Machine stops when gets to the spin cycle- last time was a hair clip stuck in pump. How do I get into the pump to get it out myself? Is a fisher and paykel smart drive about 9 yrs old.

Hi just read your posting.Is the machine draining any of the water?If it is not draining then bail some of the water out with a small bucket or pot, just enough so you can look under the machine without it leaking everywhere.Now when you are looking under the machine look to the front right and you will see a red or black fan.This is your pump.Turn the fan clockwise and anticlockwise a few times to loosen it if it is jammed.The fan should turn freely.If the pump turns freely then put the machine back on its feet and select a spin cycle and push start.The machine should now drain the water and then it will spin.Please reply on how you got on or if the machine still does not drain.Looking forward to your reply.

Try taking the cold hose of at the tap and check to see if has a little mesh filter in there. This could be blocked up with gunk.

I have a Fisher & Paykel GW609AU Smartdrive Excellence 6.5 Washing Machine that would start then stop then start then stop a few more times before eventually beeping.
I fixed it by bypassing(joined the white and yellow wire) the trip out switch which is located under the control module(one screw to remove).Now it Works.

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it (4 to 6 inches maximum). Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

Rate me pl.....if helped. Click on 'thanks for trying' if not helped, your prob will be back for someone else to solve.
