Did you slide the on/off switch on the top of the 205w to the left momentarily?

Does your cigarette lighter socket have power? Is the car adapter plugged into the rear of the unit?

If you have done all this, then I would suggest taking it back where you bought it and have it exchanged for another unit.

I just took my Garmin 1200 out of the box and plugged it into the cigarette lighter in my car and it did not work...I have a blank screen...my car is 12 years old!

No power at all?
Check your lighter socket to see if it's getting power (plug lighter in and see if it gets hot). Check the power plug on the provided cable. It contacts a fuse that may either be missing or blown. And last, check the connection of the cable as it plugs in the rear of the Nuvi.

Would you like to back up a copy of your Garmin Nuvi 205W Favorites and Waypoints?

Backup and Restoration Procedure for Favorites:

  1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  2. After a hard reset or loss of data, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.
I hope that helps.

  • Please try to call the Garmin Technical support and then check if the device is still under warranty so that they can replace it.
  • You can also try if they have any promo on going so that you can take advantage of the promo.

My Garmin Nuvi 205W just white screened. I tried to reset it. Nothing is happening. It just stays white. Any suggestions?

If your Garmin NUVI 205 can be recognized by your computer when plugged in, I recommend you backup your favorites.

Then I suggest a hard reset.

Finally, replace the firmware and system software using webupdate. Your Nuvi should not need to be able to power up for a firmware update to be possible - replacing the firmware should allow it to power up successfully after the update.

I hope that helps.

Does your Garmin Nuvi 205 or 205W get stuck or freeze at startup or when loading maps?

One trick to try when your GPS is acting up is to perform a Hard Reset.

Occasionally, your GPS may not start properly at all, and display a 'System Software Missing" message. Today's tip will describe how to restore your Nuvi GPS system software using Garmin Webupdater.

73be3b4.gif

  1. The first step is to download the WebUpdater software.
  2. Plug in your Nuvi GPS into your PC with the USB cord.
  3. Run the WebUpdater program to install it to your PC and update the system software of your GPS.

Your Garmin Nuvi should be running as good as new.
