First, download the latest driver from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1637 by selecting your operating system. After downloading run the setup and follow all instructions. Typically these issues are just a driver problem.

Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks,
Adam

Dell Inspiron 6000 not picking up wireless signal

There are lots of problems of using wireless LANs in metal buildings, especially if you are trying to go outside the building and into another building. What I have had to do where I work is put an external antenna on the wireless router and use that to transmit the signal beyond the metal shell of the building.

If that still does not yeild satisfactory results, you can set up another wireless router in the "home" location with an external antenna to act as a recieving point for the other router in the office ... essentially this is setting up a site to site network. With both routers working together you should resolve the wireless drop out issue.

Bestbuy also sells a Wireless Booster, this works the same way as I explained with using two routers however if you go that route be sure you have the option to either add an antenna or you can place it near a window (glass cuts down on your signal than steel).

If this fails look at replacing the wireless card; this setup will still provide benefical even if you need to replace the card as it will provide stronger signals in stormy weather as well.

Inspiron 6000 has trouble picking up wireless signal

Some wireless cards are better than others at picking up weaker signals.
The problem with any wireless transmissions is that radio signals cannot pass through metallic surfaces.
You should position your wireless router away from metallic surfaces/walls and position your laptop so it can receive the radio signals without it passing through any metallic walls. If possible place the wireless router higher than at desk level.

Dell Inspiron 6000 with network card Intel/Pro Wireless 2200 BG

So u can connect to the router, but you arent allowet to access the internet?
The router gave your dell a new ip-number, but it dident gave you access to the net. You ned to do the settings in your router manual, let the router give your dell full access.

Good luck

Wireless internet problem

Hi

I think your Operating System (OS) software installed after formatting does not have drivers for the wireless network card.

You did not provide any clues about the OS and the Network (Model/Brand) installed.

Dell Inspiron 6000 did ship with Windows XP as the Default OS and Dell Wireless 1350, 1370, 1450,1390, 1490, and 1500 series Mini Card or Intel PRO Wireless 2200BG, 2915ABG Wireless LAN Mini Cards as options

First, check the Original System Configuration to find out the built specification of the Inspiron 6000.
Enter you system tag. Click on the Original System Configuration Tab. Check the factory built specification and note the Wireless Card installed from the factory. If you have not changed or upgraded the Wireless Card, download and install the drivers from the list below.

Dell Wireless 1350, 1370, 1450,1390, 1490, and 1500 series Mini Card Drivers
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG / 2915ABG Wireless LAN Mini Card Drivers

I am almost sure you will need drivers for the Chipset, onboard network and video.
Intel Mobile Chipset
Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller Driver v.4.25
Video (as above check the factory spec if you ordered the ATI MobilityRadeon X300)
Intel Graphics Video (onboard) Driver v.6.14.10.4609
ATI MobilityRadeon X300 Driver v.8.162-050803a2-025823C

Let me know how you get on.

Mike
