Question about PfaFF Tiptronic 2030

2020 rotary hook continuous one direction pfaff tiptronic 2020

Machine stopped sewing and the needle bar was stuck. was basting at the time with the one stitch at a time #10 mode. removed the needle so could move the needle bar and the rotary hook now goes around in continuous one direction or the other so cannot put a needle in and it seems to rub plate as it goes around. the feed dogs still go up and down. What happened??? It this a major repair or something I can resolve or repair myself. This machine does not seem to come apart as any of my others have. Is this because it is electronic or what.

You are absolutely correct - your machine doesn't come apart much because it is an electronic machine. There really are very few moving parts in modern sewing machines - and the electronics are better left to a technician who's been specifically trained.

It sounds as if your machine is no longer in time (needle rubbing the plate as it goes around if I'm understanding correctly). While not really a "major" repair, unfortunately with computerized/electronic machines, retiming your machine is something better left to an authorized Pfaff technician.

If the needle struck metal as you were stitching/basting, there may also be a rough spot/burr on the hook that your technician will be able to smooth off as well.

Hope this helps get you back up and running soon.

Happy stitching,

How do I correct stitch length mechanism to produce 6 stitches per inch?

the stitch length is governed by the cam action connected to the walking foot
that means that the stitch length is governed by the amount of material that is pulled through in the period of time that the needle comes up and goes down
normally the cam action is set by the stitch length lever/ reverse lever
if there is a necessity for a longer stitch, the cam would have to be changed on the drive shaft underneath
That will require a discussion with a sewing machine mechanic to determine if there are cams or other linkages that can be fitted to alter the stitch length for the manufactured maximum

Its clickimg w/o needle in in hook area. Out of time or? This machine has been a painsince new!

Hm, difficult to diagnose. Usually, when my machine makes a clicking noise, it is the needle striking something. Since that isn't the case with your machine, can only assume it is something else. Sometimes machines will make additional noises when they need some oiling, but that would be determined by the make/model of your machine. Could be the bobbin mechanism clicking. Most sewing machines do need periodic sewing machine oil placed in the shuttle/hook area (use only fresh, good quality sewing machine oil--one or two drops only). Older Pfaff machines are usually well-loved, so it could be something is loose or out of place on yours.

Needle bar won't complete a full rotation, what's the fix?

The basting stitch lockout mechanism is either stuck or out of position.
You can try manually pulling down on the needle bar to see if it will lock back in, but it probably won't. May need to take it to a repair shop.

I have a Bernina 180 sewing machine that the needle is not coming down?

This might be a bit hard to explain without showing you a video or photos, but here goes.
The 180 and many other Berninas do what is called a basting stitch. When a machine is doing this stitch the needle stops going up and down for a very short time this producing a long basting stitch. There is a mechanism on the needle shaft that has a black short lever on it. When the basting selanoid pushes in on this lever the needle stays in the up position. Simply stated this lever mechanism can stick if it is not oiled and your needle will stay in the up position and not move when the machine is running. Sometimes just pulling the needle shaft down, then letting it go so it snaps back up into place will lock the basting ever back in place. Once you get the needle shaft to lock back in everything will work again.
I can guarantee you that this is your problem if the machine runs but the needle stays in the upper position. I pose helpful Bernina videos on YouTube under the name JoeKind1958. It would be so much easier to show you how to oil the basting assembly on your machine. Contact me through that site and I can make a video showing you what to do.

Bernina 180 needle bar won't move up and down

This could be the needle bar clutch. Turn off machine. Unplug machine. Remove needle. Turn hand wheel in normal rotation 1/4 turn. Gently move needle bar up and down by hand you should feel a click and the needle bar will not move up and down easily now. Restart machine and test. If it works all is good. This is a result of the machine requiring professional attention. If you use basting stitches it will likely unclutch again.

My machine was also not sewing in reverse and stuck in a basting stitch. It was a simple fix. Unscrew the plate and remove any pins stuck in there. All fixed
