Have you checked to see if it is off track? Sometimes when these machines get bumpbed, dropped, or fall they can jump track. You have to take the cover off and inspect to see if it is off track when it closes and opens. It should go all the way back on the track when it closes. Be careful not to shock yourself. If it is on when you do it and your hand touches the metal parts inside you can get seriously burned or shocked.
The disc tray does not eject when the OPEN/CLOSE button is pressed.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue. IMPORTANT: The
disc tray will not open while a disc is loading; this is normal
operation. If this is the case, wait until the disc is finished loading
before pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray.
Make sure the disc tray is not locked; if necessary,
Perform a power reset.
Press and hold the POWER button for 10 seconds until the BD player turns off.
After the BD player turns off, press the POWER button again to turn it back on.
Attempt to open the disc tray by pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front of the BD player.
If the disc tray still does not open and a disc is stuck inside, follow the steps below to force the disc tray to eject:
Turn off the BD player.
Turn the BD player back on.
Immediately after POWER ON is displayed, press the STOP button on the front of the player. IMPORTANT: Only use the STOP button on the front of the BD player. The remote control cannot be used for this operation. NOTES:
The disc tray should eject and the BD player will turn off. If it does not eject, repeat steps A-C.
It may be necessary to press the STOP button in step C two or three times.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required
Which mean the optical laser pickup lens dirty, you need to find someone who could clean it. Or if you want to do it yourself, you can open the case, then open the tray unit, after that you can see the lens unit, use soft cotton bud to remove the dust from the lens. Please, make sure you unplug the main cord, and do not touch the lens using your fingers.

Hello bettysgarage. A common malfunction in DVD players. The mechanics has a bad part or something is jamed in the rails, arms, lifts, ect. I suggest you unpluge the AC, remove the case screws(note witch screw went were), and look internaly for something in the mechanics, thread, paper, loose paper clip, ect. Carefully postion unit and reconnect the AC so you may see the action of the disk tray in motion. Please be careful you have AC power and can get SHOCKED if you touch the circuit or wire terminals. When no object is found you have a bad DVD that would require a local service technican to repair unless you are technically inclined to vinture futher. Good Luck.
DVD loading mechanism doesn't load completely that's why opens after attempt of loading. You need to open top cover of unit and inspect loading belt might be lose, tray timing can be out of phase, some wire got stuck with tray while loading etc.
I have an LG DVD player and recorder model # RC7423W and i have a similar problem, when i open up the disk tray it displays open and the tray opens for 2 seconds only and then closes. when i press the open/close button to open it again it opens and never closes back with a "Disc Error" on display until i close it manually by pushing it back inside. I cleaned it from dust many times and tried to reset it but no reset button. i just tried to unplug the wire and plug it back. let me know if there is a way that i can reset the hardware or a solution to my problem. my system is around one year old
