Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Radar antenna not rotating

Intermittently the RL80 display reads antenna not rotating. After removing the radome cover, I find that the message is correct. There is power at the radome power connections (12.3 volts). Often, if I remove the wires and reconnect, it works again for a while. The connections are clean & when I insert the wires, I tug a little to make sure they are secure.
A dealer checked the radome and found no problem with the terminal block or its connections to the printed circuit board.
I need to check voltage with the power wires connected to the terminal block (12.3 v was at the cable ends that connect to the radome but not connected).
Any ideas or other things to be checked. All other functions of the system (DMS 250 sounder, chartplotter, autopilot) work fine.

SOURCE: How to clear error code 0000003d

Is it a USB scanner? Look in System information\device manager to see if your scanner is at all recognized by the computer. If not, install the drivers that came with the scanner. If the drivers are already installed, use it with another USB cable to see if your own is the culprit. If the problem persists, replace the USB card.

SOURCE: Sears UltraSoft 800 Water Softener LCD Display wonky

You need to ask at radio shack or similar electronics store for some kind of gell that will connect the rubber strip to the display. These displays show the information that runs through the rubber strip(fiber optics, I believe?).
It is critical to get a near perfect connection between the two.
Also for cleaning, I would ask a tv repair man what kind of spray solution he uses to clean circuit boards.
Also, whenever you are dealing with electronics, there is a possiblility of causing static which can wipe out a programmed chip on one of the circuit boards. That is why some components that are ordered come in a static free plastic.

quite possible the scanner motor finnaly gave out but lets look at other things first

try connecting to another usb port on comp before that completly take out all of the scanners drivers and programs this could be a simple file corrupt

i know you tried this but sometimes putting a new driver over old driver doesnt usually change the old drivers properties this is when you completly take out all drivers and software and start from scratch for this scanner

Radar 1731 shuts down when tx is hit

There are a couple of things that could cause the radar to power off when going into the transmit mode.

The first thing to eliminate is input power. When in the standby mode the radar draws less current than in the tx mode so if you have low voltage for whatever reason, that could cause a shut down. Check all connections and measure the voltage to the unit while it is on.

A problem with the antenna motor or gear box could also be the problem. The antenna doesn't rotate unit the unit is switched to the tx mode. You would need to remove the dome cover (with unit off) and verify that the array will turn freely by hand. Typically, a bad motor will not cause a shut down but a physical obstruction could.

Focus on the power issue because that's the most common problem. Be aware that you need to measure the voltage as close to the radar display as possible and watch the voltage as you switch the radar from standby to transmit for a quick dip in voltage.

n the system setup, under “UNITS” I set BEARING to “MAG” (magnetic). This will cause the unit to display course / bearing information in relation to the Magnetic North and match magnetic compass readings. It is not the same as True North! One has to be careful with this setting. There are a number of areas where the earth's magnetic field is locally disturbed, sometimes very significantly. Your GPS may not account for it. - again, under “UNITS” I set “METRIC”.

That usually means the antenna is not rotating. Verify that first then check for physical obstructions. More than likely it's a defective motor assembly.

My radar displays all contacts reverse. How do I get the display reversed? model #1731

I agree with Nico-Fixus, the heading alignment is one of the things to be checked. Unless this is a new installation it is unlikely that the Radome (antenna) got removed and reinstalled facing the wrong way. So antenna orientation would not be a concern.

I have seen units that for some reason the wrong Radome was selected in the configuration of the Navnet display.

Read the model number on the Antenna, then check that correct antenna type in loaded in your display.

Antenna not rotating

It sounds like voltage loss could be your issue. You need to find the "Y" cable under the dashboard and measure the voltage at the point where it connects to the main 12V supply. Keep the meter on and then spin up the radar. If there is a fuse (there should be) make sure you are measuring on the radar side of the fuse. If the voltage drops off as the radar slows, you have found your problem. If the voltage stays constant and the connections are sound at the terminations in the radar pedestal, I would recommend you send the pedestal in to Raymarine.
