Please make sure that your lcd brightness is at maximum. Consult your manual to adjust the lcd brightness.
Please let me know about the video card you have mentioned. Is it of the desktop?

Laptop powers on but display does not power...

Hook a external monitor to the video output on the back of the laptop, if the monitor works! there is an issue with the computer display. The inverter board is bad, or the back light behind the LCD screen. If both displays show black, it is the Video Graphics Board that is part of the motherboard.

Strange looking colorful looking lines ran across my desktop last night and today the monitor is blank even though the power is on. I ran an LCD test but that didn't seem to help. Advice?

HI dietrying321 if you had colorful looking lines across (probably vert.) it means that your screen is bad physically. So you have to get it replaced. What you can do in the meantime is connect another monitor to your laptop and once you connect it press FN (function key) + prob F8 (the one that says CRT/LCD) twice (twice JUST the F8 while keeping the FN pressed) and you will be able to see your laptop on the external monitor. I hope this helps.

Hello, I have an HP-NC6000...can tell by the boot up sound that it DOES boot up...display shows nothing but vertical colored lines and some rows of what looks like random charaacters. I thought problem...

Hi,

As far as i know the video card is integrated on to the motherboard on that HP model laptop.

Having changed the screen you have start looking elsewhere for the problem as it could be a number of different issues which cause this to happen.

Now because of the laptop being a few years old i doubt that the GPU (graphics processing unit or video card) is to blame, although i cannot rule it out. But first you need to check on the system memory as this can cause the display to go weird. You will find a panel under the laptop, unscrew that and remove the system memory, clean the contacts and re-seat it. If you have more than one memory module then put just one back and turn on the laptop to check on the display.

Make sure you check each individual stick of memory just in case one of them is faulty.

If after cleaning and re-seating the memory the display is the same then your looking at video card or possible bad display cable.

To check the video card get hold of a standard desktop monitor and hook it up to the laptop. Use the keyboard to switch to the external by holding down Fn and then hit F4 (i think).

If the display is the same on the external monitor then the GPU has developed a fault. If the display goes back to normal on the external but stays the same on the laptop the look at the display cable.

Please post back if you need to.

Good luck.

My sony notebook working but the screen went all white

Hi elibert, do the following: first connect your notebook pc to a regular monitor and use the function key(fn) fey on your keyboard to toggle between the monitor, the laptop screen & both monitor and laptop screen. If images display on the monitor, you likely have a display problem.First resit the LCD panel & then the video inverter card (video card). If problem persists, try replacing the relatively cheaper video inverter card b4 replacing the more expensive LCD panel altogether.Do this if you are a pc support technician else,i'll recommend you take it to an experienced technician or an authorized service centre.Cheers!

If the LCD is dark but you see shadows and an external monitor functions normally, then the LCD backlight has failed and the LCD needs to be replaced

Laptop screen partially blank

Generally, the LCD is a pass or Fail device, with a few exceptions. You can try reseating the LCD cable to the video card and see if that makes any difference in the display.

If video looks normal on an external monitor, then LCD replacement is in order (Arround $200 to 400 depending on display) if issue is the same on external monitor then the video card is failing

Have you tried attaching an external monitor and using the <FN> key with the F? key (mine is F5) to toggle between internal and external video?

If still nothing download latest Bios update and try to flash to that.(if you don't have a multi-bay floppy drive you may have to invest in a USB floppy.

or Try ebay for parts
