I have an original Bose 321 system which I purchased in 2002 timeframe. Here is my problem. I have a dvd stuck in the dvd tray. When I hit eject on the system, the system says ejecting and you can here the disc whirl, but the cd disk tray does not eject. I have tried turning off the system for a few minutes then back on and unplugging the unit from the wall for a few minutes, but nothing seems to work. Is there a button I can push to manually open the disk tray? Any assistance provided is greatly appreciated.
NO NEED TO TEAR APART OR REPLACE THE UNIT! JUST TURN OFF THE UNIT, LEAN IT FORWARD AND A LITTLE DOWNWARD AND HIT THE LOAD BUTTON AND IT WILL OPEN. THAT'S THE TRICK!
Unfortunately, the only solution is to take the Bose 321 apart and that's a scary proposition. If you flip it over, you'll notice 4 little plastic "dimples" You'll have to pop each of these which will take the faceplate off. Once the face plate is off, you'll have to take the "BOSE" cover from the DVD tray off. There'll be the familiar little pinhole under the tray that you can stick a paper clip in and the tray will come out. There is one other way--do what I did last night: after having powered off and powered on for the millionth time since owning my original Bose 321 purchased in December 2002, just get mad at the thing, push eject, and when you hear the eject motor spinning and nothing happens, stick your fingernails in the tiny slot above the DVD tray and **** it out stripping all the gears, etc. Retrieve your DVD, force the tray back in, and then plug the audio from a $29 DVD player from Target into Video 1 on the back of the Bose system. Disconnect the video cable from the back of the Bose system and connect it to your $29 Target DVD player. Not only will this $29 player play DVDs, CDs, MP3s, and DivX's, it'll also show your photos on the television, too.
Bose 321 DVD players are the worst on the market. Hey, I've had a Bose Acoustamass speaker system for years and I love it. I also love the Bose 321's sound system. But the DVD player is junk. It's the cheapest Toshiba DVD player that's ever been made. When I get the urge, I'm going to take the Bose apart again and see if I can replace the DVD player with a different make (should be fairly easy) but if not, I'm tossing the whole thing in the trash and buying a $199 Phillips 5.1 surround sound home theater system and will never buy a Bose product again.
Change out a little plastic gear on the motor

I have exactly the same problem with original bose 321. Desperate to avoide sending system back to Bose and being charged a fortune! Any suggestions??
I have the same problem. I sent it in and they returned it and said that I loaded a dirty CD. We now clean every cd before putting it in and it has happened again. They charged me 50 bucks and did not give me back the cd that was in he machine last time so I don't know what to do either
This original 123 system has been plagued with problems.
Bose should dod the right thin and just fix these.
The number of system updates, the cd formats that will and won't play, its been a nightmare owning this thing!
We have a new disc stuck in the DVD drive. Does not display CD/DVD on the Bose and does not eject when it says eject. Cannot get settings to display on the TV because you do it on the CD/DVD stteing, which is not working. CAn anyone help? My husband already has the stupid thing torn apart.
my dvd is stuck and nothing is working. help!
Same problem here. I can leave it unplugged for days and still no joy when I turn it back on.
Gonzo_Don;
Dude, I just went down that road...
Gutted the 321, went to Fry's bought a component DVD player and plugged the power and IDE cables in. The DVD player recognizes the disc BUT BOSE has tweaked the firmware and neither the system nor the remote will not work.
I called BOSE and got someone to confirm the firmware tweaks.
Sooo just swapping out the Toshiba junk ain't gonna work. Arrrg!
Anybody wanna buy a 321 unit in this condition?
