Check the bios to be sure that it sees the hard drive and if it does not then
Try (with the power off) unpluging the data cable from the hard drive and then pluging it back in then turn on the computer and see if it sees the hard drive. If it does and still no boot then its like the person said above and your boot sector is probably corrupt and you will need to boot with an xp cd to the recovery console and type this at the command prompt: FIXMBR and then type FIXBOOT then EXIT but try the unplugging the data cable and plugging it back in first..
Ive seen that problem several times and unpluging the cable and pluging it back in sometimes fixes it
