boot disk failure usually means hard drive failure....although it is possible the boot partition of the hard drive has been corrupted in some way ...you'll need a windows xp disk in order to try and fix the boot sector....is it possible to take out the hard drive and try it in another machine as a secondary drive ?

Check the bios to be sure that it sees the hard drive and if it does not then
Try (with the power off) unpluging the data cable from the hard drive and then pluging it back in then turn on the computer and see if it sees the hard drive. If it does and still no boot then its like the person said above and your boot sector is probably corrupt and you will need to boot with an xp cd to the recovery console and type this at the command prompt: FIXMBR and then type FIXBOOT then EXIT but try the unplugging the data cable and plugging it back in first..
Ive seen that problem several times and unpluging the cable and pluging it back in sometimes fixes it

Computer is frozen cant get into anything

Turn it off, remove battery, reboot. If that does not work then the easiest way is to get a boot up disk for your sytem. Insert disk with computer off and then turn it on. It will boot from the disk and you can repair whatever is needed.

When i start my computer a message came that 'disk

No your operating sytem or boot files have a problem. Something is missing or corrupt in the operating system or boot files.

Try the steps below.

You will need a operating system disk or a repair disk to fix it. Insert it in the drive then boot from it. You want to get to a dos command prompt (black screen with white lettering) and type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

Reboot and see if the problem is solved. If not get back to the dos command prompt and run the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Compaq screen comes on, then goes to black screen with "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" I don't have a sytem disk, where can I get one?

This would depend on which OS you are trying to install. Also, if the system booted before and you are receiving this message you probably have a bad hard drive or corrupted system files. There are free operating systems out there such as Unix and Linux, or you can go through Microsoft and get the OEM disc for your preferred operating system. If you do not want to puchase the OEM disc yourself then you can also go through a pc repair shop and have them do an OS reinstall. Hope this helps, let me know if I can assist you with anything else.

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

your system either does not detect a bootable disk, or the HDD has failed. Disconnect any floppy disk, USB storage devices connected to the computer and make sure the HDD with an OS installed is the primary boot device. If you get the same error, remove and reconnect the hard drive. If all else fails, try repairing or reinstalling Windows. If nothing works, you may need to get a new HDD.

Your boot file on your hard drive may have been corrupted. You need to start the computer with your operating system disc in the drive, and hopefully it will be able to repair your operating system. good Luck!

Still wont boot

Disk boot failure is usually a sign that your operating system has become corrupt in some way.
If you've got your Windows disc, put that in the CD rom, then boot the computer.
There's a "repair" option that you can select, instead of re-installed Windows.
That *should* fix the problem.
It's also (thought unlikely) possible that your hard drive has died completely.
